HELP help first time crossfire

Silly question but did you bench them before flashing with 6970 bios? If not can you flash back to the stock 6950 bios and benchmark them. It could be that that the 6970 bios flash is now causing the cards to hit the duff parts that got that card speed binned to a 6950 instead of a 6970 in the first place.

i switched both bios switches back to default and ran jc2 and it was still the same. never ran heaven tho

well new psu has done jack all, i wasnt too keen on the psu being the problem however i did some research on what i have in my machine and whats overclocked and i did need a more powerful psu so i got one, thought i may be able to kill 2 birds with one stone but no.

anyway Michael before i bought the psu i changed drivers to the cd ones and guess what, with stock 6970 speeds i was geeting really close to your score, i accidently wiped the results but my fps was 88 and yours was 93.

anyway here are some new results @1920x1200 note that the cards are switched to bios 2 standard 6950 bios overclocked to 840/1325

this is whats happening, crossfire works in heaven benchmark. any game ive tried its not working or at least not very well at all, farcry 2 bench, i get 75fps sites are geting 145 same settings, jc2 1 card gets me 33 in concrete jungle maxed out, two cards get me 39.

why the hell does crossfire work so well in heaven but not in games, am i supposed to do something with these crossfire profiles?

also before installing the new drivers, jc2 always ran worse with two cards than 1, well jc2 started working smooth like it does with 1 card but this time crossfire was enabled, BUT it didnt do this straight aay, it was like after a few days. its like it was getting slightly better everyday lol.

are 10.12a official 69 series drivers? if not when are the proper ones coming out as i think this is a driver issue

10.12a are the only drivers you can download from AMD with 6900 support, they are really 10.11 drivers modified to accept the 6900 series. The CD drivers are 10.11's but earlier then the 10.12a's.
11.1 will be the first truly official driver release with 6900 support and will come out any time soon hopefully but realistically before the end of the month.

You say you ran that test on a res. of 1920x1200 but the others are run on 1920x1080? If its a higher res, original bios but overclocked then thats a completely irrelevant result to post if you are asking people to try and determine what is wrong.

Theres a link to the latest crossfire profile, just download it, run it and thats it.

yeah already did the profiles, no diff unfortunatley, in regards to the latest test i just posted it up to compare to your stock 6970 bench, was meaning that it wasnt far off so i dont think nothing is wrong with the cards. i am satisfied with each card now. im happy wwith the benchmarks in heaven too, just have a problem with games

Fair enough. Usual stuff to check with what programs are running at startup and in the background typically. make sure nothings draining resources.

ive just done another fresh install, i was even running without sound drivers, bare minimums but still not wworking.

well i have some new info, i set afterburner to show me the gpu usage onscreen mid game. right heaven both gpu's get thrashed at 99-100%, burnout paradise maxed out both gpu's are running exactly the same percentage all the time and that percentage never exceeded 50%, so in fast city areas frames were dropping, anyway the game looked blurry and crud so i turned blur off, lol now both gpu's max out at 25% and i still get lag obviously. im going to disable crossfire and see the major boost i get in burnout.

ok just had a quick bash, right with crossfire disabled the highest gpu usage i saw was 58% and there wasnt a hint of lag, fps was 59-60 all the way. with both fps could drop to 42 even tho both gpu's were at 50% nearly all the time. anyway mate wants me to play zombies on xbox with him so im sacking this off for now

ok finally put together my 2600k p8p67 pro and 4gb g-skill 1600 ram and loaded win7 on it, its a temp thing as im sending the board back.

anyway did it solve my crossfire problem?.......it wiped it out!!!!

STOCK EVERYTHING ALL GAMES MAXED OUT@1920X1200

jc2 with one card in only, wasnt any real difference in numbers(concrete jungle benchmark) however there was a major difference in feel. with the q6600 flying through the city in a fast jet full speed frames used to drop to 30 and there was plenty of stutter, with the 26k frames were saying 30 but no joke there was like no stutter, shocking. q6600 wasnt doing a real 30fps i think, but the 26k was doing a solid full 30fps, 30 proper fps is excellent to play with.

now i put the second card in and with concrete jung benchmark i used to get 37fps, single card used to bag me 32fps. with 26k power the benchmark hardly dipped under 60, end result was 58fps....wicked

went through the city with fast jet the lowest i saw was 49fps for a sec, majority of the time it was stuck on 60(think i may have had v sync on)....mad smooth.

burnout i just tried with crossfire only, i used to get crud performance wwith both cards and the q6600(got excellent performance with one card tho) fps would dip to the 40's in the citty area and even at 60fps you could feel stutter. well with 26k my fps was stuck on either 59 or 60 anywhere on the map, it did dip to 55 but it was for such a short space of time its was nothing. stutter gone

finally farcry 2. 26k smashed the q66 i was like getting 145fps a lot of the time whereas i was only getting 60-70 with the q66. never dropped below 98.

so it was my q6600, i think the q6600 can hold its ground with one card, but when you add another it flops, and even with one card you still get stutter. the 26k i saw no stutter when playing with one card. looks like it really helps with minimum frame rates which really picks up the smooth gameplay experience you want.

and remember i havent even clocked the 26k this was all done at 3.4, 26k can easily clock to 4.5 and beyond so things can only get better!!!!!!

also i am running the asus 6950 bios shader unlock only, the core and mem clocks were at default 810/1250.
