I actually had a pretty similiar conversation to this actual thread not so long ago with my department manager, who instead of being in charge of 1 department is in charge of 3 and is obviously extremely happy with this and being absolutely rimmed by the store manager because the head of northern irish stores pays a visit and absolutely rims her for the state of the store (non-sexually im almost sure)
Hes in his early 20's and came through our massive in-house development schemes for manager's and is actually pretty dam good at his job. However basically all staff above him i would associate with things i flush down the loo. This wasnt always the case as about 6months ago we'd had like a 'Floor Manager' or something similiar to that position who was unsuprisingly in charge of making sure everything was as it should be. Now this guy was a bit of a tit but you respected him because he was pretty fair and just wanted people doing their job and right, which at the end of the day is fair enough.
Now this guy has finally been replaced by a new guy who quite frankly is the most idiotic person i have come across in life so far. Whereas the former guy would get certain daft orders from overhead about moving stock to 'better selling locations' and 're-merchandising' and quite simply say no because the suggestions are that you would expect of a three year old. Newbie is all too eager to please those above him and doesnt consider the consequences for one second, even when warned numerous times by other individuals (myself and managers below him).
Hopefully at some stage those at the top of the chain will analyse for themselves some of the managerial staff they employ and cut them lose pretty quickly until they actually gain some skill for the job they're attempting to do.
Anyway as said good luck with your situation. Sounds to me like your talents are being wasted and wont be appreciated anytime soon until something big happens within your store or company.
