Help Identify This Bulb

Was just going to say you usually need to push down slightly and turn to remove the full assembly.

That said it does look awfully like the soldered in Merc types - those can still be replaced but usually that involves either replacing a section of the track ornre soldering

I tried pushing down, slightly twisting it and the housing doesn't move. All the bulbs simply pop out when you pull them.
 
Google image search for ph16w, look at what is included in the bulb assembly, that'll be why they're £18 from BMW and why you seem to have broken it :p
 
We need an update. Did the other bulbs work again when you pushed them back in or are they all knackered?

All other bulbs are working perfectly fine. I've even removed the bulbs, swapped them around and they work apart from this one as the pin was bent. At first I thought the housing was broken too as I removed the damaged one

hey are "bayonet" fixings and as said you push and twist to get them out. You NEVER need to force them.

Sorry, I shouldn't have used the word force. You can easily remove them by giving a light pull. It's also worth mentioning that Ive bought this car 2 weeks ago so have no idea what the previous owners have done :D

Ever tried to change the halo sidelights on an e90?

Something you only ever want to do once :D

Must confess i was tempted to do this and see if there was a brighter alternative to my incredibly anaemic reverse lights, but from what i've heard its not worth bothering
 
I think i'll head down to the dealer and see what bulb they produce tomorrow. Strangely, when I asked the chap on the phone what the bulb code was, he said he didn't know :D

Who the **** solders on bulbs and how is that even legal?

Given that you can be issued an FPN for faulty brake lights, does that mean you're expected to to carry a portable generator and soldering iron in your boot so you can change one if you get stopped by the police? :rolleyes:

I honestly don't know, don't you have to carry spare bulbs in some Euro countries also?

Would need to see the board in person to really tell. Some on google look like they simply pull out and have two pins with a retaining tab, then others look like they have parts of the track on them.

IMO, it should be part of "Construction and use" law that all legally mandated lighting should be replaceable, by the operator, by the side of the road, with no tool requirement other than those provided with the vehicle tool-kit and with full instructions in the operator manual.

how I wish that was real.. majority of modern cars even getting to the bulbs is a pain! my mazda 3 is a right pita to get to the fronts! rears are easy-ish if you have 2yo's hands.
 
Yeah that rule is totally ignored anyway... On my Skoda it is easy to change all of the bulbs (yay)

On my Corolla, to change the indicator bulbs you had to take the headlights out, which involved taking the bumper off... Great!

Or to change the passenger side headlight bulbs you had to remove the battery. :p
 
Hello - some really bad advice here - I think these are like VW 4E0945981 bulbs - they are about £16 from Audi and used in rear foglights of Audi A8 D3 and VW Phaeton tailights that are otherwise LED. In VW/Audis, they come in an additional metal base that is held in with 2 screws.
I am happy to sell one for a couple of £ + P&P as I have 2 spares. OP, please can you look at the back of your bulb housing assembly and see if the bulb is inserted from behind and held in with two screws.
