Help Identify This Bulb

The sidelights on the e90's are:

Jack up the car
Remove the wheel
Remove the mudguard
Crawl under the car
Remove the cover (this is fiddly and requires 2 screwdrivers and hope)
Unbolt the light (this requires 2 torx heads)
Reverse to install

Not too bad if you have access to a ramp, but with just a jack its bad back city

Tbh the bmw manufacturers mentality is you pay the service package and they do this on a yearly basis so you should never have a blown bulb. Its funny that they combine that level of complexity for a blown bulb with an oil sensor that tells you when to add oil and how much to add.

It's madness, on the F30 the sidelights require no tools, I changed a blown bulb on mine about 4 weeks ago in Halfords car park!

Speaking of Halfords car park. I went there to see if they had the bulb I needed before realising it was a BMW only bulb.

It was raining and thought what the hell why not pay another fiver and get this wefit "specialists" to do it for me as its only a bulb replacement right? Boy, was I wrong!

  • First he didn't know how to access the rear bulb holder so I showed him what he needed. Including going back in the shop and pointing out exactly what they are.
  • Once he realised they don't sell any compatible bulbs he lost my clip which they're trying to source from BMW which is a 5 minute walk from their shop. These clips are difficult to get hold off is the last excuse I heard.

Me old fabia every single bulb was a tool-less if fiddly operation, which is handy because it would blow a brakelight on average once every 2 months.

I guess they learned the lesson on the f30, the longer nose probably helps a tad too. I changed mine to led's on the e90 (dont get me started on the fiddlyness of wiring in the control box) which has led to the wonderful effect of the halo's flashing like mad for 10 seconds every time you start it
