Help identifying engine!

I'd take the cash, the remap will only potentially make it less reliable and costly in the long run, when you bought the car to save money in the first place.

My sentiments exactly. It really doesnt need it.... It has enough poke to convince me it was 180bhp so that says it all really.

I'd take the £300 and take it as a lesson learnt.

£300 is still what, 3-4 tanks of fuel?

Yeah thereabouts, or the 2 things I want to sort paid for.

I dont feel massively burned or disappointed in the whole thing but it's definitely a lesson in not making assumptions!

Take the £300 and get the cam belt and water pump changed if it hasn't already.

Ignore the service schedule of 90k for the belt change. The 1.9JTD should be done at 60k as the water pumps are known to destroy themselves with age. I wold also get them changed before any power upgrade unless they have been done in the last 25-30k.

It was done at 60k and again when I bought it at 100 (part of the deal)

Also found through speaking to arval that it had a new clutch and flywheel at 90 and an EGR at 80

Any word of a manifold or actuator along with the EGR? The evil that are swirl flaps made for an expensive month on my TiD in November.

Well, things took another unusual turn today.

I dont rag the nuts off of my cars and rarely rev diesels much higher than 3000rpm (no point!) but today I was overtaking a slow lorry in third so put my foot down... To my surprise the needle kept climbing past the 4500rpm redline, past the 5000 mark and onto just under 5200rpm.

We've already established that this is a single turbo engine but I've always struggled to believe its only 150bhp. One explanation for this is that it has had a remap at some point. As it was a lease car from new, it was most likely to be a Hirsch remap (genuine Saab accessory).

The Hirsch site lets you order a free badge for cars with a remap, but it checks the VIN number. Popped my VIN number in - it checked out and my badge is on it's way :)

So what I actually have is a 175bhp single Turbo TiD - 0-60 in 8.5

Good job I took the cash from the dealer, not the superchips offer!

Now you know you should really inform your insurance company.

If the information is available to you on whats been done to it in the past then you can bet they can find out.

Was fully intending to - was waiting for the v5 to come back first, which I got a few days ago
