I think you're right.

If someone was saying they are going to south of france on holiday, 99% of people in this thread would think southern med coast, not western atlantic coast.

Citation plox.

Considering that this is GD, if someone said they were going to the south of France on holiday, a lot of people would think something about illegal immigrants and cheese eating surrender monkeys.

I went to Pau. Does this count as the south of France?
I went to Dordogne. Does this count as the south of France?

so the only thing that “counts” is the Mediterranean coast? I disagree.

I think Cherokee squaw.

For a Frenchman with an intimate knowledge of London's streets having taken The Knowledge, I find I have to disagree with your geography of your home nation, sorry Jean. I would say south of France too...

But that aside, women and maps are dangerous bedfellows.

Well i got the train to bayonne in Sw france, thats how the area is known to me, abit like here is sw even though we have the most southerly place in mainland England

If someone said they were going to the South of France, I wouldn't expect to see them on the Atlantic coast, even though that place is South in France, it's not in the South of France.

When will British born people stop lecturing other nations on their geography. We aren't in colonial times Jean-F :D

Geographically Biarritz is located in Southern France, but like JF I wouldn't associate it with the region known as the South of France.

I can see why you say its not in the south of France because the south would be considered as being on the south coast i.e. like Marseille.

I'd say it was more western France.

For us it would be like saying Newquay is in the south of England.
