I think I'd be tempted by the Mustang even though it won't handle as well as the Porsche. I'm not sure why but..... I get the impression pin sharp handling just isn't the point with the Mustang - it isn't designed for eating your favourite moorland road, it's designed for laying two thick stripes of rubber on the tarmac and just looking.... damn cool.

Took the words out of my mouth!! :D
The Mustang just has something other cars do not. :)

I am quite happy with how the Mitsubishi 3000GT handles and that weighs in at 1700kg plus it as no traction control or driver aids, except from it been 4WD/AWD......I suspect the Mustang probably handles better but maybe has a little less grip?

if you look in top marquee (something like that)

you will find PLENTY of saleen mustangs i just saw them today TOTALLY impressed!

You're starting to get the hang of all this aren't you :D

I don't like Porsches but I'd still have one over the Mustang.

The 911 is supposed to be one of the best performance cars ever made. The Mustang isn't.

If I were in your position, my head would be saying "Porsche" but my heart would be saying "Mustang"

Follow the heart

exactly

300BHP for the 911  never really looked at them but honestly expected it to be quite a bit higher

Tough choice, for me it would be the 911 as I feel it would be easier to live with... then again the Mustang just screems OTT, in a good way!

Of the two the Mustang is the more 'special' car imo. The 911 does everything its designed to and it does it very very well but its just lacking something that gives it that "I would sell my soul to own that car"

one thing with the mustang thou, won't it be left hand drive?

that'll be a right pain to live with in the UK - toll booths, car parks, safe overtaking...

The Mustang might have that wow factor, but I can't help but feel you'll tire of it being LHD, and typically American when it comes to build quality. Residuals won't be great and selling it on may prove difficult. The Porsche just seems a much more complete package - better chassis, better performance, better build. It might not have the muscle car appeal, but come on, its a Porsche 911 - hardly a dull boring car as some seem to be suggesting here!

OK, I know we're talking about a tuned Mustang here, but I've driven the standard V6 and V8 GT and they must have worked miracles to do anything with the handling. On greasy wet British roads that feature - amongst other hazards - the occassional bend, its my guess it wont be long before you're arse over tit in a ditch.

Bear in mind this is a car that retails, in its most expensive guise, for roughly the same as a Peugeot 307 1.6HDI. UK spec Transits have more sophisticated underpinnings than a Mustang. Also the interior, whilst superficialy pleasing, does not give any impression of longevity.

The Porsche comes from a whole different universe. Do yourself a favour and forget the Ford.

The 3v Saleen retails for about $38000 new -clicky

That's roughly £20000. Do you really want to pay £25-28k for a second-hand £15k car with £5k of mods.

I'd go for the Mustang myself...it it wasn't for the fact its LHD (as mentioned by a couple of people). It has much more road presence IMO. Its a bit rarer as well.

The LHD factor would make the decision very difficult for me.

Agreed. The Mustang is probably great fun, but £25k+ on one? No chance.
