I've been sitting on this chair for the last month (from a popular office supply chain), and really don't like the shape of the back - too much of a curve IMO. It digs into my lower back, when I just want to let it relax into the chair. Also the tilt tension is too high even at lowest setting. You need to exert a lot of force on the floor to keep it tilted, making it kind of pointless.

I'm looking for something covered in fabric and well cushioned. Ie, not leather and not mesh. A high back would be nice, oh and also I'm not too fussed on armrests - I took them off the above chair anyway.
I'm leaning more toward executive rather than operator chairs (so I can lounge back and enjoy a movie or something).

I've sat in this chair and quite like it (again, same popular office store):

Others that have caught my eye are these from vikingdirect:

Helsinki

Rome

Oh and this chair looks very nice, but at £299 is a little more than I'm willing to pay without trying it out first.

I've read that some of you guys here have the Rome chair, and tbh all look pretty comfortable.
What other options are there, bearing in mind I want to keep it under £200 if possible?

I don't know whether it is possible to get executive chairs with tilting backs, instead of the seat and back tilting together, but that would be wonderful.
:)

I realise there are a lot of chair threads, and I have read through a lot.
The thing is ratio of leather:fabric is, I don't know, [guess]10:1 [/guess].
Anyway chances are I will go for that Kashmir managers chair as I have had the opportunity to sit in it.

inb4 Muller corners or whatever they are :)

Im pretty sure i know what shop your on about, and i got like a leather executive chair from there about a year ago and its still pretty comfy :)

Avoid the ones with the plastic frame. They're useless. Get something with a sturdy metal frame that will last. I had a really nice 100 pound chair and it just ended up falling apart. The screws wouldn't go back into the wood of the chair and the plastic felt very cheap, especially for what I paid for it.

i have that exact kashmir managers chair and i LOVE it, its so god damn comfortable, so much better than leather (i switched from a leather chair) and given that the cold weather is coming in the leather chairs suck :P

i'd deffo go for the kashmir one

Great, looks like that's what I'll be getting then. :)

The "Markus" from Ikea, absolutely amazing chair, I've had it for around 6 months and have yet to have any issues with it.

I've tried the Markus in the Southampton ikea store, and it certainly is a nice chair. The price is also very good. Just a shame it is mesh and leather.

I've had a kneeler for the past four years, but I want an ergonomic upright now. Shame as they're awfully expensive.

I've never tried a kneeler, though can 'feel' how it might be comfortable in my mind. One day I will try one. :)

My chair is amazing, dad used to work in office furniture and got it for free for me. Costs about £600 and is made from metal and leather.

Hope this helps.

I worked at the previously mentioned office supply chain for several years and can say with confidence that even their most expensive chair WILL break within a couple of years. The quality of all these mass produced chairs is absolutely dire.

At the moment I have a Humanscale Freedom ergonomic chair which is the best chair I have ever sat in. It's a joy to sit it in every day when I come home from work. These retail at over £500 but regularly pop up on the bay for only a couple of hundred in business asset liquidations. One of the best investments ive ever made and will practically last a lifetime.

Wow, those humanscale freedom ones look the bomb.
Are the ones without the headrest the same as the ones with the headrest? I mean is there only one chair and the headrest can be added?

I got to sit in a hoganasmobler plus 501 the other day (somebody at uni has back problems and has one especially). Damn, comfiest chair i've ever sat on. Everything about it seemed perfect, the backrest felt like it was designed for my spine, headrest was also ideally positioned and shaped, and it reclines effortlessly. It was disappointing when i looked up the price.
