I am everywhere...
Basically, i am changing from a fto to one of the followings but i dont know which one to go for. I hava a budget of 5000pounds

1, Honda HR-V
I like the looks (perhaps too femmnie? :) ) and i should get a decent one - 5 doors with a vtec engine for around the 5k mark.

2, Mitsubishi RVR (1998 onwards)
The problem is, i might be taking a gamble, considering that im getting it mported from japan, no model report and parts might be expensive. Having said that, i have got in touch with someone who claim to use a loophole of some sort to get it registered. It has atriptronic gear box and as with all japanese cars, it come well loaded.

3, Kia Sportage
The decent one is more than 5k hence i will have to do the rest on finance, it has good reviews from parkers but i dont know if it will be the same in real life.

The reasons i am upgrading is because i have always wanted a softroader, my son is getting to tall to fit in the back of the fto and looks like i might be a father of two soon.

Suggestion also welcome apart from my choices. Thanks.

I'm no expert at car's but I'm quite sure a Kia costing over 5k on finance is a bad idea. So I would scratch that one off the list if I was you.

1 and 3 don't sound like upgrades to me. And I've never heard of the second one so can't comment on that.

I see your point but i meant changing to. The Rvr are fairly common i suppose.

my transport manager has an HRV and my next door neighbour has a sportage.can't advise on the Mitsi as i know zero about them.
the sportage has been a great car for my neighbour, he loves it.does it's job very well but be aware it's less than quick.
the Honda is pretty much the same story.the guy bought it for more room (he shows his dogs all over the county and occaisionally at crufts too)

Please.....I really do need your help, i am at a cross road here.

Man, they are all just..... silly 4x4 things that get stuck in the mud, don't really do that well on the road and... appear to serve little if any purpose.

The Mitsubishi is exceptionally rare, the Honda is a rare example of Honda making a gash car (Family friend has one, its just so.... well, I've yet to find a single redeeming feature) and the Kia Sportage is a Kia so is assembled with the care and craftsmanship of... a nasty cheapo car.

That said apparently the Kia is at least half good off the road.

Why don't you buy something decent? Sorry for this rather vague, perhaps totally unhelpful reply but it's painful for people who love cars to see somebody move from an FTO to something so... soo..... damn I can't even think of a word.

To help people decide which of these thrilling cars (I am sooo opening myself up for some anti Mondeo flak here) to select, here are some pictures:

Chosing one of these must be similar to chosing which open prison you'd like to serve a sentance in..

HRV. As i actually like them. And with a bit of work can be made quite slick looking. Not a bad engine either.

I guess if you held a gun to my head/threatened to torch a 5 Series unless I chose, I'd pick the HRV as well as although hardly great it's the least gash there.
