i'm thinking of replacing my 400d kit lens with either a tamron 17-50mm or a sigma 17-70mm

i've read a good few reviews but still can't make my mind up ,i'm mainly going to be using it at the wide end for landscape shots

i already have the kit lens, a nifty fifty, a sigma 70-300 :)

I guess it will all come down to whether low light or range is more important. If you're planning to use it a lot in low light then maybe the Tamron is a better bet (although you do have the 50mm so..). Having said that the extra range fo the Sigma would fill in the gap between the 50-70 range, and from past experience that can be a bit annoying.

Resolution figures seem to show not much difference between them, although the Tamron seems to have a slightly better resolution at the short end which I guess you'll want to use for landscapes.

That was probably no help at all to you but maybe it'll give you a few more ideas to decide with.

damn i hate this camera so many choices
i'm now wondering as most of my shots are at the wide end and a lot are landscapes that i might just get a wide angle sigma 10-20mm :)

Nah, you want the 17-50 more than the 10-20.

Remember you don't NEED wide focal lengths to do landscapes. How many of Ansel Adams' photos have that stupid 10mm distortion tarred over them? None.

thanks for that ,your right .....i suppose the 17-50 will be a better all rounder as well.
i'm off to order it now before i change my mind :D
