Help me keep my lil sis of WoW!

i can understand playing on a proper wow server for long periods, but playing on an illegal server for long periods is just pathetic, how long does it take to type a few gm commands to make yourself a god, then get board of 1 shot killing everything.

A long time when your a 13 year old 23 year old. apparently.

Also, a simpler alternative to stoping here, one that she wont be able to quickly fix, is to simply remove the side of the case, and remove the ram modules. Or if the motherboard has onbaord graphics that are too rubish to run wow, remove the graphics card, that way the computer can still be used, but is limited to rubish graphics.

this has got my vote, a bit of computer sabotage is always fun. but i think you need to be a bit more subtitle.

un-connecting the power on, is one that is sooooooo hard to spot... :p

lol hopefully thats a joke, but to a lot of people these servers are a great alternative, if i wanted a dabble in wow no way i'd wanna pay when these are run pretty well from what ive seen with full forum support, communities and responsible rules. Doesnt seem like the half arsed punk-fest i initially predicted

personaly i hope everyone who runs a illegal wow server gets a nice knock on the door, follow by the door being busted in by a load of law enforcement and everyone arrested and taken to court.

And as for the people who play on the illegal servers, well its not cost effective for blizzard to take them to court, but who knows, with any luck one day it will be cost effective for them to take you to court and take every penny you own.

ah let her play it, why dont you just give her a good hard slap and say "Computer says no".

Just a Idea, what about some sort of Parental software ?

If you can get on her PC, set up a account, then put on,

Advanced Parental Control 1.8

http://www.download3k.com/Security/Access-Control/Download-Advanced-Parental-Control.html

14day trial, then just remove.

Not a big fan of this sorta software, but now and again a client wants it.

There are a lot of this sorta software around, I just like this one, for ease of use for the client, and very easy on system resources.

just take her PC away, if she cant use it responsibly then she shouldnt have one at all, im sure your parents would agree

What server is she on?

Start your own toon of the opposite faction. Kill her, corpse camp her, repeat.

She'll soon get bored and logoff / quit.

Seconded. Take it away and dismantle it. PC use should be a priviledge not a right; even if you do have 14 of them.

shes a several million level admin who knows the game inside out....as has also been said in this thread she can 4-5 star expert GH3 songs using only a control pad!

as others have said can't you just restrict her mac addy.

Surely she's not that technically minded to be able to spoof that.

After a quick google search could you also try and block port 3724.

This way the server shouldn't even connect.

You're looking at this all wrong. You have 14 PC's/Media devices, she'll be able to get access to something and get back online etc. I'm betting you probably only have one modem/router and if that's gone she's in for an early night. Simply unplug, remove and put where little hands won't be able to get at it. This allows her the use of her PC for genuine work but removes the temptation to WoW. I don't care how much of a genius she is she's not going to build her own ADSL modem out of a paper-clip and bits of tin foil any time soon.

yeah but everyone else suffers with no media center no internet no file sharing etc

im not sure if all BIOSs support it, but mine allows me to set up a password that has to be entered before windows will boot. That plus a password on the BIOS itself. and the computer wont be able to run windows, short of resetting the bios by removing the battery that is.

Theres been plenty of options on this thread to things that can be done, one of them is bound to work.

so 14pcs 1 modem that you cant remove and blocking her is proving difficult?

calmly ask her for a chat, sit her down, and proceed to scream in her ear "GET A LIFE" because missing school for a game let alone a game as useless and unrewarding as WoW is just plain sad, she should be in the playground with her friends irritating people like me not sat at home on her computer all night long - fail in childhood = fail in life (ok not quite but it has a large impact)

although im a heartless sod that hates kids :D so that might be a little OTT ;)

Most routers have schedule things nowadays, just find out what ports WOW uses and block them whenever you want.
