Help me keep my lil sis of WoW!

although im a heartless sod that hates kids :D so that might be a little OTT ;)

I am 15 (nearly 16) and that wasn't OTT at all. I think it is the best way to get the message accross, to be honest I would just block her MAC Address for a few days or lock off the ports that WoW uses. To find this download and install DUMeter if she is using a different server to the standard one....more than one way!! ;)

yeah but everyone else suffers with no media center no internet no file sharing etc

I'm not aware of any 14 port home routers so you're more han likley to have a switch handling the majority of your 14 devices. Assuming you do have a 14 port router then plug it in during the day. Perhaps the question should be is your media usage at 3am more important than her education ?

Put her pc on its own switch with a digital timer on it?

You seem very negative about all the suggestions made she isn't going to be god even if she can play guitar hero.

If she connects using cat 5 get rid of that, if she connects it back up just cut the wire, may sound a bit harsh/drastic but there is quite a severe problem. Same with wireless block her mac address or switch it off. Only way to get around that if she doesn't know the router admin password is to get devious and reset it etc, if that happens its time for pc access to be taken away all together.

Port blocking 37** whatever it is will also work, try forwarding it to a non existant ip address on your network.

Don't know about you're router but i can limit access to any pc, wired or wireless, for every day of the week. If yours doesn't it may be worth searching for something that does

How about leaving the router in for media centere and file sharing etc.. but unplug just the phonecable form the router??? if you still need the phone internet, you can log onto her WoW account online and set parental control and you can actually set when they are alloed to connect to the server, there re many wayhs of sorting this problem but you have to think about the one that suuites you, someone is going to suffer and hopefully she just cant play wow, you can also try blocking her access to the internet on her computer by taking cable/wireless adapter away?? hope this helps

Wait until she fails her GCSEs and becomes a single parent aged 16 then tell her "I told you so"

a very nerdy girl that plays WoW rather than seeing her friends in school... i doubt theres any worry of kids until mid 30s at least :p

ok like poeple have been saying to block the port/webserver go into the wow directory, there should be a file called realmlist.wtf open it in notepad and it should provide the details needed to connect to the server

Thats what you need to block out

Block the mac of her PC or just block the destination IP. Both on the router.

Failing that you could edit her hosts file and point the destination host to something else (127.0.0.1) so she could never connect.

Of course that depends on if she knows about hosts files.
