Hello,

Built my computer up today and all has been going well - so well that I thought it would actually run first time on. How wrong I was.

Recently got it altogether and went to test it by plugging it in - put the plug in, put it into the PSU and then hit the switch down (on the wall socket) and there's this strange buzzing noise coming from both the computer and the wall socket.

Now, I don't want to die. Is it a case of the thing not being grounded properly or should it not be doing that at all?

Is it a normal electrical hum or something else?

If in doubt, don't risk it is quite literally the best thing I can tell you, whatever anyone says here or elsewhere, if you are not comfortable with it do not even attempt it.

Any chance of buzzing me on MSN messenger with this?

It's like a crackly fizz - I'm not going to do anything stupid and didn't even bother turning it on, 'cause I know it would probably ruin something. :D

I'll send you the msn.

I know the Power Supply works - it held me up on this system for a good while and is relatively new.

I will try both a different socket and cable within the next couple of minutes.

Is there any chance at all it could relate to the way I have set things up in the system? I have followed the book as well as I could have and nothing looks out of place - although when I first heard the buzzing noise I thought it was relative to something in the system.

On the second time of trying it definitely sounded from socket along the PSU cable.

Also check the voltage selector switch on the PSU if there is one :) Any chance of posting some pictures up of how you have things plugged in inside the case?

Certainly - I'll see what I can muster up. Although I did remove some of the pins because I didn't think they were in the right place - the pins I now have remaining from the case are:

VCC,
USB0-
USBO+
GND

VCC
USB1-
USB1+
GND

HDD1

HDD2

If I put together the details from the mobo booklet (DS4) - could someone give me a hand in finding a home for those pins? The details on the pins and the details on the mobo booklet are different - so I'm unsure as to where they go.

Took out the pins I mentioned above - tried it in a different plug and no cracking.

Took it back into the original room where the crackling happened and perfectly normal.

Obviously I messed up the pins somewhere along the line.

hooked the internal speaker up to the hdd light connector? ;)

Totally possible if you were me - but I didn't even touch the internal speaker.

Here she is

As you can see, I've worked out how to plug in the reset and power switch - not something to be laughed at.

Understand that diagram is a bit much to understand and that it would deter a lot of people from trying to figure it out - but if anyone has a DS4 and an Eclipse, could they give me their pin set up?

I'll be working with it very soon and want to get it running today sometime - I think this is the only thing that's holding me back.

Thanks.

What pins have you got left to plug in then?

4 to go:

VCC,
USB0-
USBO+
GND

VCC
USB1-
USB1+
GND

HDD LED 1

HDD LED 2

I'm not great with the placement of these things - but usually there's a place that says to me: "That's where it's meant to go" - as far as this goes though, I'm stumped.

Right, if you put the case so the PSU is at the top left, look to the left of the SATA connectors on the board and you will see a block of three pins. This is where the USB front panel connections go. Basically you have two leads and each set of pins can support two sockets so your two plugs will use only one 'set' of pins. The way you are looking at the pins, there should be a pin missing on the bottom left. Now, you need to put the two USB plugs in so the ground wires are at the bottom but the VCC wires are at the very top so at the bottom, there will be a pin you can see on the right with nothing in it and a space on the left where a pin would go.

I'm not sure what you mean about two HDD lights though- does you case have two HDD lights or something?
