Help me not get electrocuted.

Just as a side note, when the term chipset is used on its own, it is referring to the northbridge controller on the motherboard and not the CPU :D :)

Ah right, Cheers. :o

I'll keep an eye out for it myself after I try and get the sound sorted. It's harming my COD fetish. :(

Rather than start a new thread...

Having a bit of trouble with games, it seems.

About 10-15 minutes into a game of COD2, the image will stutter about 3 times and then the system will re-start.

I thought this was a game patch error, so I downloaded the latest 1.3 patch.

Tried again - and the same thing happened.

Uninstalled COD2, re-installed it, applied the Intel Dual Core patch, then the 1.3 patch on top of that - and the same thing is happening.

Thought it might just be COD, but I put Battlefield 2 on there now and it was running fine for an hour, first time into a helicopter (where it all gets a bit more demanding I assume) and it stuttered and re-started again.

I logged back on and got the usual 'send error' report message for BF:2 - but also got a report message for a 'Services & Controller App.' - does this have anything to do with the problems I'm experiecing - or is it just another woe I have to try and fix? :(

-edit- seems the services and controller app is for something Internet related.

Oh dear.

Put COD2 on for about 5-10 minutes, hit the windows key and checked the temp:

84oC

COD2 Settings Here

The thing is running at 50oC, just looking at the Windows desktop...

Even on stock cooling, that can't be right...

The card is an X1900XT, by the way.

Thats fine, my x1800 XT is on 59 just sitting on my desktop (idle), and only goes to 71 while gaming (underload), its normal for the x1900's to hit the 80's on the stock cooling while gaming. :)

Is the fan definatley spinning on the graphics card?

That's what I thought - but I checked it and it is.

Bit of a problem in that it's cutting off my games though. :D - And I imagine it's going beyond 84 if that's only after 5-10 mins of gaming.

Just as a question - what games and level of graphics are you working with?

Granted I had COD2 on pretty much it's highest settings, I sort of thought that the card would be able to handle it (the game is a few years old) - and in Battlefield 2 I didn't even up the graphics, they were little better than my nVIDIA FX 5200 was displaying them as.

I'm a bit puzzled as to what to do - should I buy an aftermarket cooler for the graphics card? If so, does that even guarantee that it'll stay significantly cooler than stock? Have I got a faulty card?

Am I expecting too much from this card to be running COD2 on it's highest settings?

...Do I ask too many questions?
