I've been looking at the GTX 1070 from various manufacturers but still undecided which to buy!

I was initially leaning towards to the EVGA GTX 1070 SC but the more I've read about it, the more I'm undecided.

What I've found from my research (and correct me if I'm wrong)

EVGA one is more susceptible to coil whine
Palit one has problems with its fans?
Gigabyte G1 is the loudest out of the GTX 1070s
MSI Gaming Armor OC, initials problems with memory on the MSI ones? Is this still the case?

The card I want has to be quiet as much as possible.

Lastly, will any of the 1070s be okay for my current system?
i5 3570k (not overclocked)
MSI GTX 660 Twin Frozr
OCZ ModXstream 600w
2 HDDs and 2 SSDs

No manufacturer is really more susceptible to coil whine than another. It can be a problem with any card from any company.

The only bad Palit is the Dual. The JetStream and GameRock are both great cards, although not really a top choice any more since the price went up, due to the poor two year warranty.

The G1 has been the loudest tested most places, yes, although it does run very cool. You can probably quiet it down a lot with a custom fan curve.

Most manufacturers have moved to Micron memory now, and the problem is inherent to that. It's going to be tough to avoid getting one with it though, but it is only a problem if you plan to overclock the memory.
 
Just bought an EVGA 1070 FTW and it seems like a decent card.

Over clocks decent enough. Quiet, cool and no coil whine on my system.

But as already stated. A lot of the latest batches of cards are coming with Micron memory now. The EVGA used to use Samsung, mine came with Micron. Still appears to OC not too bad. Have mine currently sat at +200x4, so effective speed is 8,808MHz and it appears fine at the moment.

Plus the EVGA has probably one of "the" best warranties out there.

My last 6 cards have all been MSI, but the better one's appear to have jumped a fair bit in price. So decided to give another manufacturer a try.

Amp Extreme is the Champ this round, it's the Lucille of the 1070's-not because I have one or anything, she just is.:p

They are much the same tbph, you pays your monies for build quality/brand and it generally gets you cooler/(much)quieter running flat out, and mustn't forget the rgb lighting too if it's of interest or not.

True but a custom aib variant can appear to be more susceptible to coil whine than others.

A lot of the time it's down to a higher no of sales=more reports, but Evga didn't have any to sell in numbers at all until very recently.

My gut would tell me to skip them this time, but...

It has the best full stop imo, only manufacturer that's clear and upfront about what you can and cannot do with it, which is just about anything.

It was really only in Europe that EVGA had supply issues. They seemed plentiful in the US and were regularly in stock over there during times when people here were still waiting. I had a FTW for a while and didn't experience any coil whine myself. Can't say I've read too many reports of it either. Almost every report of the SC/FTW I've seen has been people saying how pleased they are with it.
 
I'd go for an EVGA SC (best warranty service and best 2-slot cooler) or a Palit Super Jetstream (best cooler of all, quietest, but 2.5 slot).

Out of interest. Do you know if EVGA is now exclusively using Micron memory in the 1070? Mine has Micron and appears to oc reasonably well, so I'm not too worried about it. Just interested.

Cracking little card the EVGA 1070 FTW.
 
I would choose either the EVGA 1070 SC or FTW. I'm probally going for the FTW, although I haven't taking out AMD of the equation yet.

EVGA is the best warranty and it's transferable, makes it easy to sell on when you upgrade. :)

Power requirement wise, the GTX 1070 is not a high end card at all. So OP's PSU will be plenty.

The 1070 only requires a few more watts than a GTX 760. And less than a 770, 970, 980, or RX 480.

Don't sell yourself short, 5 years is nowt.:p

I'd put a lot of that down to doing your job extermley well too, you do nothing but good things in here and no doubt elsewhere too.

But all I can say is one of your ex UK customers here is left with the impression of:

Almost everyone else in Europe, 'how many you want?'

Evga, 'due....'
