Hi,
After several hundred quid, a lot of trips to stoke and back and 3 amps that havnt fixed my DVD sound sync problem; I decided to give up and think about using the same money to make my main PC as quiet as possible, with a sound card upgrade to pipe correctly synced sound to my existing amp.

Now, heres my system as of today:
* Intel Core2Quad Q6600 G0 Stepping.
* Abit IP35-Pro.
* 4Gb GeIL Value PC6400 Cas5 (4x1Gb)
* Asus X1650 256Mb Passive.
* Connect 3D X800XL 256Mb.
* 500Gb Samsung SATA2
* 2x 250Gb Samsung SATA2
* 250Gb Hitachi SATA2.
* Sony 20x DVDRW
* Samsung 20x External USB DVDRW.
* 2x Dell 2407WFP 24” TFTs.
* Corsair HX-620W PSU.
* Apple Pro USB Keyboard.
* Microsoft Intellimouse Optical USB
* Antec P182.
* Scythe 1200rpm 120mm Fans.
* Artic Cooling Accelero X2 on X800XL.
* Scythe Ninja Rev.B.

So, as you can see, its in a case thats been designed to be quiet, with two video cards that are passivly cooled, with case fans that are supposidly quiet.
But it still doesnt have make a racket at times. lol.
Its not increadably loud, but it is noticable when im watching DVDs at night.

The only think i can think of that'll make a difference to start off with is reducing the number of HDDs in the system. Of which i could wack them in a NAS and have that in another room.

Thoughts?

Thanks in advance all. :).

Hi, you could change the fans for AcoustiFans, here's the 120mm one.

Running them at 7v would be pretty much in audiable. As you say, reducing the HDD in the machine would help, else put them in some kind of silent drive enclosure.

Don't bother with acoustifans, they are expensive and not that great. adding a 7v mod to your fans should do the job.

I'd look at reducing the number of components for starters. More components = more power = more heat. Are 2 DVD drives nescassary? Definately try cutting down hard drives and see if you really need 2 graphics cards!

are you able to control all you're fan speeds, even with quiet fans if you can slightly reduce the speed it can make a difference.

as for the hd's look at suspending them or putting into drive coolers.

have you used the acoutic tools on the hd's to run quieter ?

Keep your existing fans and wire them through a Zalman MFC-1 plus if you have a 5.25" bay free. The control knobs do not interfere with the door on your case. Dialled down to the minimum everything goes quiet. If you have all your hard disks on those long bolts that push through the spongy washers then they should be more or less silent except when in use but if you can remove/consolidate into larger drives then it can only help.

Yes.
Ones an external USB so thats moot anyway.

Again, yes. I have 3 displays.

I havnt no. But the Samsungs i have are ment to be quiet anyway. Not sure on the others.

I'd like to wack all the drives bar one, into a NAS, but a NAS unit with 4 HDD slots on it are either really rare, or really expensive, and often both. :p.
lol.

Nope.
As Disk 0 has the OS, Disk 1 has the swap, and Disk 2 has the temp files.
If i disconnect any of those the system wont boot.
That'll be something i'd reconfigure though if i got a NAS.

I can decide wether to get a IcyBox NAS enclosure and 2x 500Gb HDDs, or a 'pre-made' 1Tb NAS.

Suggestions?
