Fair enough.

One question though, any reason why you are not listening to InvaderGIR which is very correctly saying along with some other people that your system that you are looking to buy is a bit of an overkill?

At the end of the day though, we are just trying to help you out to get the best system for the money that you have to spend. :)

What i plan on getting is well within £2000. so what it may be a little overkill for my needs atm.

It will last me 3-4 years and i wont need to upgrade it for a long time. Its my money and i think £1500 - £2000 aint bad for a decent pc that will last me that long. Quite frankly is nothing to do with u lot what i spend my money on!

We are or im certainly not disputing how much you spend your money on this system. Im just saying that you can get better componets that what you have listed. No need to be rude though.

If he is ready to invest a large sum of money has he considered holding out till October 2007 as the brand new x38 chip set are due for release(pci express2) in UK around 2nd October and December-January Penrynn cores are being released (12 meg cores). That would be a better investment over a 3-4 year period. Just a thought;)

i can wait yes but these new corse will be a hell of a lot of money tho. in havent decided when im buying it yet tho. when they do come out then the qx6850 will drop in price then i can get one of those :) lol

If you haven't decided on a schedule, then hold off until Q1'08 if you can.

And, fwiw, a Q6600 G0 will clock to 3.0++GHz very easily ;). Worthwhile exercise if nothing else.

If i can make a suggestion regarding the QX 6850 it may be useful reconsidering your memory from 6400 to 8500 to appreciate the full 1066 fsb of the processor under x64 vista/XP as well as not restricting o/c potential if you so choose;). Even more so if you do choose video editing/ multimedia applications.

you only need 533mhz (266mhz) memory to take advantage of 1066 (266 quad pumped) fsb.

As i suggested to A Park 6400 memory may prevent the PC of achieving its maximum capable performance. Bearing in mind the processor is an extreme edition This happens because the processor (CPU) is faster than RAM memory and usually it has to wait for the RAM memory to deliver data. During this wait time the CPU is or can be considered idle, doing nothing (although that's not absolutely true), . An ideal scenario, the RAM memory would be as fast as the CPU hence the suggestion of 8500 (1066) over 6400. It would also allow the extra headroom to overclock, as he intended.

But in conclusion re-reading A Parks Specs Asus Stiker Extreme the 6400 memory may be ideal due to the reported overclocking potential by overclockers as well as the problems asscociated with 1066 in relation to the striker extreme

ok guys i have decided to go for the q6600 and will have a go at clocking it somewhere around the 2.8 - 3.0 mark

i have also decided to get 6 hard drives,

3 x seagate 80Gb for my 3 os (i have a lot of software to install on them)

3 x seagate 500Gb for storage.

i have deicded to get the termaltake kandolf case which at around £120 - £130 is a bit pricy but i like, bet seeing im saving £150 going to a q6600 from a q6700 it dosnt really bother me. all this and the spec on the first post is still way within my £1600 - £2000 price range

still havent decided on a cpu cooloer tho i want one that looks good and moves a lt of air (dosnt need to flash stupid colours or anything but blue would be nice but im not really bothered as long as it dose a good job cooloing my overclocked cpu) i wana keep away from wc.
