Help me spec a new 2k gaming machine

That blog really helped thanks.

Frustratingly what tripped me up was the fact the 4 pin connectors had plastic protectors on them so both ends from the fan to the splitter looked like females.

Oh well, you live and learn :)

Ps The 540 is phenomenal to work with, fantastic builders case.

I'm so gutted the sound card installs with the good looking red design facing downwards, I only picked it for the looks ;)

Well I'm pretty much done build wise.

I've only just powered it up and I'm into the BIOS set up screen so everything appears to have gone well so far.

Quick pic from my iPhone so not great quality but gives an idea.

Thank you again for all your help guys.

The build looks beast mate! Corsair products are just so damn good imo.

The only question remaining is what monitor(s) have you got running? Hopefully not a cheapo 60Hz panel? I switched to 120Hz recently and it blew my mind to be honest.

Well interesting you should say that mate, I said in my very first post I'd need to think about a new monitor too as I'm currently using an old HP 2510 monitor running at 1080 60Hz - not exactly making the most of my cards .....

Yeah you system could easily handle 1440p and above ;)

I recently got the below:
YOUR BASKET
1 x Iiyama Prolite GB2773HS-GB1 144Hz 27" Widescreen LED 1MS Monitor - Black £269.99
Total : £279.59 (includes shipping : £8.00).

Very good monitor for the money, still 1080p as I only have 1 GPU so didn't want to cripple my ability to run ultra settings in games. My customer review of it is on there (1st one).

BUT having said the above, if you have more budget or are happy to go for 24" then ASUS or BenQ offerings will be far superior to the Iiyama:

Actually, can I just check one last thing with my build.

Have I set the fans up correctly for the best air flow?

On the front the AF120's have the red front facing outwards and the AF140 facing the red inwards. At the top the SP120's are facing red front downwards.

I've included a couple of pics to make it cleared, i'm pretty sure it is correct but I never really doubted it at the time based on where the stock fans were placed.

Also, the H100i can also have fans on the top and indeed came with a set of SP120's. Would it provide any improved temps on the CPU if I added these to the other side of the rad and ran a sort of push/pull set up?

Ok, not so happy with these R290X cards.

Despite waiting for the non ref versions, which in my case came with the Twin FrozR Gaming Cooling fans, when I run 3D Mark the cards under full load are running at 94-96 degrees within 30 seconds with fans at 100% !!

That just scares the life out of me, surely they are not designed to run at such temps.

I assume after 4 working days I still have the option to return these cards to Overclockers for a refund?

Going back to this post briefly, to me it looks like you have the fans setup fine. By the looks of it you are pulling through the front and exhausting through the back.

Your H100 fans are setup for best internal case temps by exhausting through the top. Your CPU temps will suffer slightly though, due to the 2x 290 gpus dumping the majority of their heat into the case which is then sucked up through the H100 rad. If you want to drop CPU temps by a few degrees you could mount the rad fans on top, pushing cold air through the rad from outside. Having the 3 front fans and 1 exhaust I don't imagine your gpu temps would suffer much at all in this setup either.

I have my fans setup like yours, however I have a reference blower style 290x so almost none of it's heat is dumping inside my case, meaning cpu temps are unaffected.

EDIT: Regarding adding 2 additional fans to the rad, I have tried this myself and saw little to no difference in temps (just an increase in noise). You might see 1-2 degrees different, possibly more depending on your setup but I doubt it. Not worth it in my opinion - try get those 2 fans blowing air onto your GPU's from the side panel if possible? Should bring gpu temps down quite a bit, 5 degrees or more if you are lucky.

Thanks WalderX, that puts my mind at ease. My CPU and case temps run bet reasonable so thought everything was good there.
