Help me spec a new 2k gaming machine

Actually on final review I see that a lot of the Bitfenix cable range is out of stock or have less remaining that I'd need to order.

That could perhaps be my question answered by default but I would appreciate the confirmation that none of the cables listed are actually additional required extras.

I might stretch and get the fans then next month grab the cables to complete the build.

The cables and fans are(unless I'm missing something) non-essential, more nice to have rather than must have.

Can save £40 by going with 2 of

Do you need 16gb ram? If it's mainly gaming then 8gb will be enough(says the person who has 16gb of ram :p but then I got it as there was a good offer a couple years ago).

The cables & the fans aren't essential but are nice to have, the fan would finish the rig off in a nice black and red themed build plus offer better performance and run much much quieter :p

The cables are used to just to make the thing look epic :D they also take the fans off the motherboard headers to give a much cleaner look to the finsihed build.

I would still go with the Corsair RAM personally as it will really set the system off and trust me on this, it was almost like Corsair made that RAM just for that motherboard.

The deal that Fowler002 listed on the Gigabyte R9 290's is also a good shout, just the gainward cooler would look better imho but thats horses for course's.

Ok, what i'm going to do for now is order up all the fans that you listed above Ethermaster and drop off the storage HDD. That pretty much offsets each other and both are in stock.

I will also swap out the memory and go with the Corsair but as that's £40 more and I don't want to change the GPU's I'm going to leave the additional cables for now. I know they'll improve the looks but most of them are out of stock just now anyway so I'll order them up next month.

Evening/morning all,

So all my parts arrived Saturday as planned, awesome job Overclockers and DPD.

I've spent this evening getting on with the build and so far so good, figuring out most things as I go.

The biggest challenging I'm finding is the cabling and in particular I've come to an issue on system fans.

The mobo has 4 sysfans and a CPU fan and CPU over fan.

I have 6 fans to power plus anything related to the CPU H100i cooling (not got that far). Am I short some cables and need to get molex converters and run off the PSU or am I missing something. People did confirm I had all necessary cables so I'm unsure if I'm doing something wrong.

So far it looks superb, really really happy with the case and the mobo choice!

You will be fine, the chassis fans you connect straight to the mobo and the cooler fans to the unit, then another cable connects from the unit to the Cpu fan header.
Have a look through the link, ti better explains it.

Now that the unit is mounted, we will want to plug in power cables for both of the fans and the pump. The H100i has an integrated 4-fan hub which is where you will want to plug in your H100i fans. You will find two ports on top of the cooling unit, where you can plug in the included fan power adapter cables. Each adapter will support two fans, and by plugging the fans directly into the fan power adapter cable and into the cooling unit, you will be able to monitor and control the H100i fans through the Corsair Link V2 software.

The cooling unit itself has two cables to plug in, a SATA power connector, and a pump sensor cable. The SATA power connector should be connected directly to an available SATA power cable from your PSU, and the 3 pin (with only a single sensor wire) fan connector should be plugged into your CPU fan header on the motherboard. The sensor cable relays pump RPM information to both the BIOS and to the Corsair Link V2 software, and lets your motherboard know that you have a CPU cooler installed.

Cheers bud :) I do as I'm the king of bling ;):D but no in real terms it will not offer much more then just raw sexy appeal and to serve as nerd porn, but then again I do have RAID 0 SSD's, another 8 GB of RAM a bigger PSU and a sexy sound card does that count .....

Very true, the RAID0 SSD's are a lovely touch..

Why not just get a PCIe SSD? No need to setup RAID and just as quick!

Thanks guys, I'll take a look at that link now and get back on with the task in hand.

I'm taking random pics as I go so I'll put together a short pics timeline post once I'm done :)
