Help me with my bike rattle cycling brothers - please

Any indication from the bike shop how they arrived at a figure of £237? And what is so wrong with the wheel that it can't be repaired?

We think that it's a bearing replacement. If it's cup and cone bearings then it should only be a few quid plus 30 minutes labour.

It it's cartridge bearings then even the most expensive are only £20 (I doubt these are ceramic or hybrid).

Yeah I posted earlier on with a theory on the spokes! Either way, a wheel only needs replacing if it's completely trashed generally.

They reckon the wheel is trashed because my brake pads were wore down and I've ruined the rim of the wheel on both sides so with the faulty bearings, freehub and rim I need a new wheel. They also said my chain was 100% worn (they have a test apparently).
Even armed with this knowledge of a new wheel and new chain I can't fathom how they can reach £237 unless it is for an exact copy.
I still don't have the bike so I can take better pictures of it.

A new 9 speed chain and a new wheel (including everything) of similar quality should cost nowhere near £237, even including LBS labour.

Personally I'd tell them to give you a more realistic quote (i.e. <1/2 that cost) or go to another LBS and tell them exactly what you need. You could probably just ring around a few and explain over the phone if you don't want the hassle of taking your bike all over the place.

Normally an LBS can build a fairly bog-standard wheel quite cheaply and I think you'll have better luck (less hassle) getting somewhere to do that and fit everything for you rather than messing about.

Of course, added cost of new brake pads will up things a bit but really not much, and certainly not by £100.

Does your bike have disc or rim brakes? That wheel is for a bike with disc brakes, so the rim surface may not be suitable for rim brakes.

I did say I linked to the wrong wheel so something more like this - http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/700c-REAR...sure_cycling_bikeparts_SR&hash=item35d460416a

I could take my cassette off my old wheel and put it on this?
The sellers even say they could put a cassette on.

This is a catalogue picture of my bike from 2012 -
