Hello everyone

Now then, I have had my network setup for a couple of years now. I have:
1 belkin 54g router (bag of do do)
2 belkin 54G access points.

All this for a standard 3 bedroom house  they are utter tosh. My laptop picks up 1 network to connect to, as They all use the same SID, channel and a WPA-PSK. I get initial connection issues all the time with all the machines in the building

I tried using different SID's for the access points. This gave me the chance to connect to each point. The access points didn't have any internet access, yet the router did

What is the best way to set this up, I am beginning to get a little lost, should they all be on the same SID? or not, is this causing an issue?

A quick step by step point on how this should theoretically should be done would be great. so basically showing me, how to have my network set up, SSID, Channel, MAC filtering etc. with a router and 2 cascading access points (to jump the signal to the other end of the house)

Thanks everyone, hope I can get this sussed.

I would personally try 2 WAP's as i have had trouble in the past where you would have connection issues because the laptop tries to change between the two WAP's all the time.

Don't have a huge deal of experience with wireless but i've not heard many good things about belkin either.

Were the two APs and the router all on the same channel? Did you connect the two APs to the router with a cable?

What you ideally want is the three devices doing WDS, so that they're all connected to each other wireless in one enlarged network rather than three separate networks with the same name.

hi, thanks both for replying.

The router, and access points were on the same channel, with the same SID, this gave me one main network to connect to. But i had a lot of connectivitiy issues with this.

depending on the current settings, I connect to the access points and router using an ip address, or by connecting them with ethernet.

so, in the router settings I can set it to act as an access point, to enable wireless bridging. then i enable it in the access points.

SHould the whole network have one SID and be on the same channel? how can i force it to work as one network :S

getting annoyed with this, considering jacking it in and buying a more up to date router

You would have issues with that - the three devices would interfere with each other.

If "wireless bridging" is some euphemism for WDS, then they would all appear as one SSID on a single channel, and should then behave fine.

**edit, stupid question, yes my router does does this, so do all of the access points, they have the same admin page.

I have these headings under wireless bridging:
Enable wireless bridging (checkbox, which is checked)
Enable only specific wireless access points to connect (checkbox including space for multiple mac addresses)
Disable ability for wireless clients to connect (checkbox)

so that leaves me with the question, what should the SID and channel be? for the access points and route, same of dif
