Help needed - 285 OC is starting to stink!

The smell could be from a burst or leaking capacitor, the electrolyte stuff that leaks from them smells like ****. Also, check you're not overloading any extension leads that you may have coming from the wallsocket.
 
Also comparing cod4/css to stalkers is kinda bad as stalker is a graphically intensive game and cod4 and css are not. The more power the card needs the more strain it will have n your PSU, so like others have said, it could be quite likely you need a new one.
