Just to note, i've used Avast for 2 or so years, and give it to users when they bring in a home PC for us to look at.
That was just a dead/dieing/unseated graphics card, Avast being installed is just coincidental. Much in the same way if you work in IT you'll forever be told "Well my keyboard worked fine, but then when you installed that printer last week it started going dodgy."
