hi everyone, ive been out of the loop for a while so need help speccing two new pc's!

one of them is a gaming pc for me, it will mostly be for mmo type games but also the very occasional new proper 3d aaa game

i need a screen for this one too but im not sure if i want 4k so i can watch 4k movies or if a high fps monitor might be better for my mmo playing. Are there affordable 4k high fps that I could switch to 1080p sometimes or not?

my budget for this one is £1000 and I dont need a windows licence. the monitor and peripherals i can pay for seperately, £1000 just for the computer!

I need a lot of storage, maybe 5tb would do?

my current pc has a core 2 quad q6600 and a 6850 so i dont think anything can be re used. the psu is a hiper 600w i think but its very old so probably needs replacing too. i could use my case but a new one might be best so i can give this pc away whole!

SECOND PC is for downstairs for everyone to use instead of the old laptop thats down there. already got screen etc. It is just for web surfing and playing the sims 3 basically , not sure how much i would need to spend. I want it to be small too, itx. which is why im not just re using my old pc for downstairs

thanks everyone!

someone said there are new amd cpus out soon and they will go in the same motherboards so i think i should get an amd system with a cheap cpu and then get a pricier cpu once the new ones arrive ? :)

X570 tomahawk motherboard is highly recommended.

Corsair, seasonic, superflower are good psus.

Unfortunately can't help much right at this moment as quite busy.

There will be some good specs put up on here from the members :)

It wasn't good even as new.
Hiper is/was garbage brand.

If equally old as CPU, PSU would be anyway outdated.

Case is lot better at holding it's usage value.
At least if it was modern design instead of antiquated.

Zen3 architecture CPUs are released into sale 5th of next month.
The closer that gets the cheaper old ones become.
Would be really better to wait for that in general.
Graphics card situation is plain messy with no availability of Nvidia's new cards and no proper decrease in prices of older.
Also AMD has RDNA2 card launch in end of this month.

There are quite a few cheap 60Hz 3840x2160 monitors, but higher refresh rate choise is still really slim and in smallish 27" size.
And of course prices aren't exactly cheap.

Zero sense to spend fifth of the budget into motherboard!

I don't agree it's 'zero sense' . It's just £60 more than the one offered just below my post..

4k is a stretch on that budget, but a 3080 may be worth it. However, new AMD cards are coming at the end of the monthbso it might be worth waiting for.

You can throw a 3300x into this until the 5 series come, or just wait 3 weeks and grab one then.

Case is your choice and I'm not sure what monitor to suggest. Are you after just 4k or high refresh rates.

My basket at Overclockers UK:
Total: £438.98 (includes shipping: £11.10)

thanks snips86x

wow ssd prices are great now i remember paying close to that for my 40gb one which i still use ! bit small even just for windows 7 ha ha

any thoughts on case at all? i quite want a white theme, i have seen white psu and ram too, do i just need ddr4 and something with 750 watts or better if i have a look myself ?

i do video editing too i forgot to mention so a good cpu is important to me

and ive read about nvidia graphics card availability problems ... not sure if i should just get something second hand off of facebook or something until that has calmed down

i can see a 2070 msi super for 300 near me. i guess i should think about warranty though

i could probably stretch the budget to 1500 for the pc if that would help with 4k ?

never spent money like that on a screen before but with specs like that assuming it doesnt break it might be the last screen i have to buy for a very very long time ! dont see 8k taking off ever to be honest i think vr will take over before 8k is approaching normality

are there any bigger than 27 inch ? i currently have a 24 inch and was thinking id like something more like 32 this time so i can sit back on the sofa behind my desk sometimes

With an all white theme I think his username is Sparx. He does good build recommendations and has a White themed case.

A 3080 plus a 4k 144hz monitor is your entire budget...

That Silverstone is notably brand overpriced for minimal level 3 year warranty PSU.
I mean 10 year warranty fully modular high end platform isn't that much more.

Also that Crucial is expensive for QLC Flash drive when TLC drive costs only £5 more

It's just £60 more than the one offered just below my post..
Which won't make PC any faster/longer good staying.
So with limited budget there's no sense to spend that 30+% higher price on that part.
Especially when money is needed/better used for other parts.

do i just need ddr4 and something with 750 watts
750W isn't any overkill anymore.
New Nvidia cards didn't improve power effiency any and have basically record level power draw ratings.
With TSMC manufacturing node AMD has some chance of surpassing Nvidia in power efficiency.

32" choise is complete lack luster.
Even in 2560x1440 it doesn't have any real choise for higher refresh rates and above 60Hz 32" 3840x2160 models come out maybe for next summer. (+ year or two tolerance)

oh thats a shame. i would say what about a 4k tv but those are all 60 fps i assume or 60 hz i should say

a 43 inch 4k tv is £300 now though so i could just get one of those as well

amazing how much they have come down in price !

ok forget the monitor i will figure that out on my own time

just looking for a 4k and vr capable £1500 spec now ! :)

There is flexibility on that if needed I just thought 1000 sounded like a lot and then 1500 sounded like a lot lot i dont want to be that guy with a 3000 pound computer im sure i would feel guilty about it !!

As OP is now saying they want to spend extra then my mobo is still valid if he wants to go the x570 route.

Yeah there arent any cheap 4k high fps monitors out.
What mmo games do you play?

To go 4k and vr then get a 4k 60hz monitor, you don't need a high fps.

Theres the:-
BENQ EW3270UE 32" 3840X2160 4K VA 60HZ @ £320

I imagine you get the backs up of people on this forum, you're quite annoying.

Sorry I mentioned it!
@EsaT is a straight talking Fin - there's no intended malice within his posts. His posts may lack the usual softening edges but he's never intentionally rude. He knows his silicon and gets to the point as efficiently as possible - and this can come across as brutally blunt.

If you read his posts again with the above in mind - he really is only stating facts with no other intention behind the post.

He's a great member - very clued up - and facts/money savings are key behind his posts. Plus, he's Finnish and it's friggin' cold over there, so he's probably very grumpy when not enclosed in a sauna - and then there's the Russians... :D

*i'm not his spokesperson or anything - more a forum buddy that has learnt to appreciate his pragmatic input (he would critique a post of mine exactly the same if he had a different opinion - no quarter given for luxuries or lesser components for same money.).
