help needed new pc build wont boot

well melbourne after i saw that smoke coming out i just packed it up and sent it back to overclockers for a replacement. i was wondering how many times can i rma a my mobo. also a relief from hearing that it might b just the mobo.

I had a borked mobo before, reused everything else (but the mobo) in my next build.

Perhaps a good lesson to learn here (and apologies if I sound condescending, this is not the intention) is that as these are parts that are used for many types of system, so it isn't always the case that everything should fit somewhere (particularly in the case of the PSU).

Connect a lead up when you are happy you know what it does. And always read the motherboard manual.

Hope you get your rig up and running soon. :)

You've probably burnt out a fan header more than likely as you had a 4 pin connected to it. I have no idea why you did this.

But I can say... you should READ THE MANUAL first!!

There is a chance your motherboard may still work but the fan header will be broken... it would be better to RMA it again.

hi i just checked the status of my rma on my motherboard and it says returned to customer with no explanation at all whether it was faulty or not or anything. last time it said it was faulty. but this time it says return to customer. what does this mean.
thanks

but i checked the board was dead does this mean they charged me £10 + del + vat for it not being faulty

No its probably because the board is dead due to your mistake? RMA doesn't cover your mistakes mate.

Yeh to be honest its unfair for overclockers if you screw up and then send it back. For example if i overvolted my cpu bu accident and fried it i wouldnt expect a company to have it back due to my mistake.

Exactly... seems like its the second attempt to do it too.

Also looking at his pictures inside the case, I don't like the way that the wire from the fan was running over the CPU fan, as if that did start up it would catch the lead could do damage to the lead and stop the fan from spinning up.

This sounds like a 1st build that went extremely wrong on an expensive system as well. On my first build, I know someone who worked in a local PC repair place and after they closed he had to work behind I went down and he took me step by step through how to do things. Now I can build them no problem.

My only fear and hate when building PC's is instaling the HSF as some of clips are hard to clip on and even though it is done outside of the case on a solid table, it can still feel on some like you are going to break something pressing down on them.

well i put the board back in and is running finally i got it too boot but there r few problems occuring.

1st of all i cant get vista installed on it
secondly i installed crystal xp and was working fine but sometimes there is no display after windows xp logo
thirdly after few runs it started taking a bit long on the bios page where it says the board details. donno wats wrong. :(

i agree with you but i cant afford another board as i have spent all my money on this system i cant wait another 2months 2 save another £120 for buying a new board, however the warranty covers the damages anywyz so *** is rong with it if i even use the warranty. dont see no harm in it. :o

what you have done is put a 12v rail for the floppy drive onto a 12v fan output.... MASSIVE SHORT curcuit there, no wonder it started to smoke. Its like plugging the male end of an extension lead into the female, but with power running through it... BANG!

hi just finished sorting it out working excellent now no problem at all except for installing vista

THANKS TO EVERYONE WHO HELPED ME WITH BUILDING MY SYSTEM MANY THANKS AGAIN.

now i am going to move on to overclocking and i hav no idea about it so i will ask everyone again but i hav to post in overclocking section thanks to everyone again.

if you have a usb keyboard you mightve disabled the option which allows usb keyboards to work in the bios... clear the cmos using the jumper or try a ps2 keyboard if you have one.

on my first build the computer shop i bought half the parts off offered to check it for me- and they found i didnt screw the brass spacers in all the way, making the motherboard slightly bent, meaning itd snap eventually  , but i fixed that problem and now i can do it no problem, the main thing to remember is to take your time and check you didnt miss anything out ;)

hi i am using a ps2 keyboard not usb keyboard. i am using a usb mouse though. iz there another way to make it work than clearing cmos because i dont want it mess up again. it took me ages to finally make the pc 2 work with help of so many people here, i am so scared that i didnt even plug my case usb and audio cables on the motherboard. i only use usb of the motherboard.

also i just downloaded the cpuz and everything it says its weird
my cpu is 1.80 ghz and it says it 1200mhz and my ram is suppose to be g.skill pc2 6400 800mhz but in cpuz it says 400mhz
