Now we are getting somewhere :) I am presuming your dreytek modem is where your old internet used to come in?

yeah

line comes in upstairs, connects to my Draytek modem, which then goes to my netgear router

but the pc downstairs is not connect to it in anyway now, it has its own sky router

i have another wired cable heading downstairs "outside" into the office downstairs

Is this network cable still there? It's just unplugged? It's still there than this is what you should do.

Plug out the draytek modem from the back of Wifi 6 router. Plug out the homeplug too.

Plug the "outside" cable into the Sky router at one end and into an ethernet port on your Wifi 6 router upstairs.

Go into the setup of the Wifi 6 router and set it up in access point mode.

So how are your Router and the Sky router connected?

1 is pplugged into the pphone line socket upstairs, the sky router is also doing the same downstairs (but we used have the landline phone connected to this, its now plugged into the sky router i think)

yeah its "unplugged" now, as it used to connect to my mums pc, nothing is on that line that goes "outside" from upstairs to downstairs

let me read the rest and get my head round it

right , gotcha

that sounds like a good plan

so what do we do with the home plug that's connect to another pc and sky TV? oh, yeah i bought a switch box for this ready to plug into the sky router , yeah ??

Does the new sky TV box connect to the sky router via Wifi to get internet? If it does and is then plugged into the homeplug via a cable, its effectively acting as a bridge to the sky router, over wifi to the rest of the network. Thats likely to perform terribly in that configuration?!

You need to unplug everything and start from scratch :D

You are just plugging out the homeplug upstairs, you don't need to do anything with the ones downstairs. Or you can if you like with a switch. If that's what you want to do.

Hey Shi, I have to head off now. Sorry mate :(

I hope the instructions I said above worked. They should have.

If it didn't work. Just double check things. Make sure the "outside" cable actually still works. When I said plug it into the Sky router and the Netgear router, I presume you know I meant into one of the Ethernet ports on each router?

Setting up the Netgear Router in Access point mode is pretty easy. Just make sure you set it to get IP dynamically from existing router. If you have set it as fixed IP, it might not work with the new sky router.

Don't think I'm going to need the switch box at all now that the sky router is downstairs, I've plugged the TV into the router directly, so all good :)
