Help needed with my FTTP connection

Yesterday I had FTTP BT infinity 3 installed which gives me a supposed 200MB Download and 20MB upload speed.

I have run a speed test from my MacBook and iPhone over the wifi connection and get speeds around 175 / 180MB download and 20 upload which is amazing.

However running the same tests via the Ethernet connected computer it is maxxing out at 94-95MB

I am using homeplugs for the Ethernet connection which are TP Link supporting upto 500MBs so I don't think that is the issue.

the Ethernet controller is a Killer™ E2200 Gaming Network

I have noticed this though when looking at the rather net controller on the PC

How can I change this to allow the full gigabit connection?

Not very experienced with powerline adapters but in my experience they seem to max out at around 80MBit/s realistically in the average scenario (EDIT: Though won't be the main bottleneck here as you are getting basically 100Mbit speeds).

If the NIC isn't handshaking at gigabit speeds then the first thing to look at is the quality and type of the cables involved.

As pointed out its likely to be only a 100mbit connection on the powerline adapter itself.
 
If it is the Homeplugs can anyone recommend ones that will give me what I'm after?
Unfortunately where the PC is located its not possible to plug directly into the Homehub on another floor
 
Also worth considering that this does rely on your electrical wiring so there are other variables involved on top of the powerline adapters themselves so replacing the powerline might not solve your issues.
 
It looks like the Ethernet port on what ever device your using is only running at 100Mbps which is why your only getting those speeds over a wired connection. Mine is showing at 1Gbps which is ten times faster.

I don't think it's the power line adapters running slow all though they never do run at their rated speeds. Mine are 1200Mbps powerline adapters and as you can see they are not running at max speed.

However you can see my ethernet device is running at 1Gbps. I do think it's the ethernet device on your laptop which is limiting your speeds not the power lines on this occasion.

Try this

Step one go to configure on your ethernet device

Step two then go to advanced tab and look for speed & duplex to see what speed its running at

I has already been ascertained that the set of adapters the OP has only have 10/100 Ethernet. So not likely to be a Laptop issue (despite the 'Killer' NIC).

If he's really getting 90MBit+ using them, then that's quite impressive. Far better than you'd usually expect.

We are in a new build 2015 property so the wiring 'should' be ok

And looking at the Speed & Duplex
the values I have are

10Mbps Full Duplex
10Mbps Half Duplex
100Mbps Full Duplex
100Mbps Half Duplex
Auto Negotiation (this is the one its currently set at)

So despite it being a 'gigabit' Ethernet controller that option isn't there ?? :confused:
 
Not looked at the specs of your homeplugs however when i used TP link Av500 kit my Ethernet controller still ran at 1Gbps. But the through put i got on these powerlines were around 30Mbps which were crap so i upgraded them

Anyway's sorry for TRYING TO HELP seems some people go off on one when trying to help.

So you believe it IS the homeplug that's the issue and not the fact I cant seem to set my Adapter to 1Gbps like r7Slayer?

If that is the case its the homeplugs can better plugs be recommended? as I say I cant plug PC into router directly as its on another floor of the house.
 
It's there on the spec sheet that the TP link homeplugs you have do not have a gigabit port.

Move your PC next to your router temporarily if you want to rule that out.
