Help needed with SSD SMART tests

I'm trying to run SMART tests (short and long) on a SanDisk 240GB SSD Plus using the SanDisk Dashboard, and in both instances the test never gets past 10%, eventually reporting that it has completed with status code 27. Further the SMART tests 'last run' status on the dashboard is just showing 'None', rather than a date. Does anyone know what status code 27 means? SanDisk documentation is little light...

Thanks

Hey there.

Go ahead and follow @KIA's advice, to see if the same thing happens. But note that this might be due to a faulty cable or port as well, so you could re-test the drive after connecting it to a different SATA port with different cables, to see if the issue reoccurs.

Hope that helps.

Just got back on this - been a bit busy. Had a go with smartmontools and it still won't finish (issued a "smartctl -t short c:" command)

The reason we're worried about it is that very occasionally the PC is failing to boot properly (the SSD is the OS drive) reporting "disk read error occurred, press ctrl+alt+del" to continue. We've mounted the drive internally in a another machine (same build) and can't complete the tests there either. But externally via a USB/SATA adapter and mostly curiously the SMART tests complete. Am starting to wonder if there's some incompatibility between the SSD and the PC

Hmm this is indeed a bit odd to say the least. It is possible that such an issue may be present here, especially having in mind that the builds are the same, although such things rarely happen with SSDs and HDDs. I'd recommend that you check the manufacturer's website for a firmware update and install it if you find one, to see if it has the same problem afterwards.
If that doesn't help as well, I'd suggest that you contact the manufacturer or the reseller you got it from and ask if you can RMA it.
