HELP! New PC is broken :(

You bought the £140 BeQuiet because you thought it would be quiet? :o

Lol yeah got there in the end :) Fingers crossed it plugs in fine and my new PC is ok :) Also double fingers crossed I don't need to reinstall win7 because I cba.

Other psu was like a vacuum cleaner, I was actually embarrassed by the amount of noise it made when I was playing l4d2 lol, it just keep getting louder and louder and then BANG!

Just looked up this psu's noise rating, its 15db which is a whisper! I'm not kidding the other one was probably like 70db

I said a few weeks back that I'm surprised OC sell these psu. Never seen a good word said about them. Hope it works when you get the new one Gullanian, and nothing else got taken out with it mate.
 
Ahhhhh, the cheap PSU.......a right of passage undertaken by budding PC enthusiasts around the world. I still remember mine well......2004......"why is my new PC ramdonly restarting! The 5 quid PSU has a rating of 6 quadrillion watts, so that can't be the problem....." :p
 
This raises an important point.

The system says home use, which to the layman, could quite easily be taken as gaming. Barebones systems that aren't suitable for gaming and ship with power supplies as such, should contain clear descriptions on the site that a stronger PSU would be needed if the user decided to take such a path.
 
I quite agree. I have been saying for a long time now that it would be a good idea if they stop selling these rubbish cheap psu's. They just don't have a place in any rig. There are always special offers going on so no need to skimp on a psu. Take today for example. OCZ Stealthxstream ll 600w for £43. It's a good psu and much better than the original.
 
It took me ages to put it all in, but, it works :)

My emu 1820m card isn't producing any sound... but it is sending power to the breakout box so it's plugged in... I'll try and reinstall the drivers, if this is broken, I will be massively upset as it cost me £350 and is one of my pride and joys!

Anyway,

I had to take the whole thing apart, an back, and apart before everything was ok (loose connection first time I think in something, idk).

Lessons:

1) Don't buy a ****ing awful PSU. That thing is a POS and there was nothing on the description to indicate to me it couldn't handle anything I put in it. I'm a noob and thought 500w = 500w and only silly people spent >£30 on a psu.
2) Don't buy a ****ing huge PSU if you bought a value case (small)
3) Don't buy value anything. I should have bought a case and mobo seperate.

The PSU just fits inside, the cables are a royal mess but I tied them away from the fans/ventilation etc so they should be fine. There jsut isn't enough space in there, an the PSU cables are really long and multiparted (obv expecting a bigger case). But it went in eventually. I wouldn't recommend anyone else get that combo though.

On to trying to fix the sound card... please, please work
 
YESSSS SOUND WORKS

Jesus what a scare.

Disabled/uninstalled on board via device manager
Uninstalled emu drivers/apps
Reinstalled emu drivers
Reboot

All fine, PHEW.

Thanks for all your help everyone! NEVER BUY A CHEAP PSU.

























They are only suitable for mahjong
 
When I first started building PCs for people I used cheaper PSUs so I could make the budget go further, after 2 of them went and took the PCs with them I have got branded ones ever since! Its just not worth the hastle for a little extra money.
