Hi have just carried out my first CPU upgrade A6 to A10 everything seemed to be going well until I checked the temps on the UEFI and HWmonitor the A10 is running at what seem to be very high temps 55-60C at idle and when I started a Prime95 test temp shot up to 103c very quickly any advice would be appreciated.

What cooler are you using?

Don't use Prime95 for testing, use something that reflects real world usage like games, becnhmarks even or Asus realbench

I would have a look at reseating the cpu cooler, if it was like my AM1 setup it only relied on 2 screws.

I would hope not, but take it off and see if it's gone hard yet (I assume not) and if not it should be okay to just leave and put back onto the CPU

ok have just spent a couple of hours removing and re-seating the CPU with new thermal paste, getting the same temp readings as originals. Next move was remove the new A10 and replace it with the original A6 to test my skills at applying thermal paste and attaching the cooler and prove to myself that I'm doing the job correctly.

Temps on the A6 are close to what I had with the A10 installed, not quite as high, but still way above what most information I can find suggests is safe. Could someone point me in which direction I should go next.

Get a new cooler :(

Before that, try a BIOS update, and clear CMOS to check that you haven't accidentally whacked the vCore up or something like that

One thing I did notice is the contact area on the stock cooler doesn't cover the whole CPU is this the norm? shouldn't the stock cooler be capable of keeping the CPU within it's operating temp specs?

There are going to be a few firsts for me by the sounds of things during this learning curve, BIOS update and Clearing CMOS I have never done either, one thing is the system is fairly new so I'm assuming the BIOS and CMOS should be fairly up to date.

The stock cooler with the 7850K is absolutely pathetic.
I've not used it with this chip, but it gave pretty unimpressive results years ago with the low end chips it was shipped with.
Pretty disappointing they don't still put out the heatpipe cooler.

Always worth updating the bios though. Do you know what voltage the motherboard is supplying to the CPU?

will check again but I think that's the actual max, as I've explained I'm new to all of this, I assume 1.450v is to high? and would have an effect on the temp. Can I alter the max value?

Seriously well to high , as befor reset the CMOS and revert to defaults in the bios . If that's fails to solve it , drop it manually as this will be the direct contributer to the temps . I don't use more than 1.4 v for suicide runs @ 4.6ghz on my 5820k on a custom water loop ... So I'm not surprised you hit that on a stock cooler . The stock cooler is fine and is upto the task of not a little loud , but not with CPU voltage that high . I'm not sure what voltage that CPU needs but I'm pretty sure it's a lot less that 1.200v maybe around 1.150 maybe even less , you'll need to read up if it's forcing you to set it manually which it really shouldnt and a come reset and default should cure it

Ok back home out of interest I booted into the ASrock UEFI after checking the HWinfo readings again HWinfo is reporting at idle Vcore 0.975v the ASrock UEFI is reporting vcore as 1.344v which one should I be using?.... have shut it down and am about to reset the CMOS.
