Help out an old timer...!

Me again :) Can anyone foresee any problems with attaching a 40" 1080p Sharp TV via HDMI to this setup? (Don't know exact model) I mean in terms of picture degredation etc?

Thanks

David

In the same boat last time I looked at Pc specs it was the end of 2004 for a build to play Bf2 on. Its still touch wood running just now but only good for browsing and email and Music etc.

I’m getting a new Rig in the new year as some of my favourite games are coming back out updated and a few new I want to try.

Elite Dangerous
Sims City
New C&C
Day Z
Planetside 2

But Im thinking the same why by a new Monitor and not just a 32” Panasonic LED TV as I could use it to watch Tv and Blueray’s as well.

I’ll have what ever is near to top end GFX card wise, but like you thought would it work???

So say a 32” Tv will work just as good and have not issues?????

It does not help the naming conventions companies have, I have to go on price to figure what is the newest one. Questions over if I7 CPU’s are just over kill to play games is another question.

Nice motherboard, a bit pricey but I guess you get what you pay for. Certainly adds some food for though.

It is expensive for a mobo imo.. but I didn't want to have to replace it any time soon, wanted wifi that didn't look like some sort of creature, and i've got the upgrade path to go from my little i3.

Also +1 for the 7850! awesome card even at stock. Get the 2GB version though, i've only got the 1GB but wish I'd gone for the extra kick!

I'd definitely pay extra for something that will last. I'd like this system to last at least 3 years. As I've said before, I'm not an avid gamer, I just play the odd game. It's more going to be an entertainment centre with movies, internet, music etc with just gaming thrown in as a secondary option.

The 7850s seem awesome value for money! Thanks for recommending the 2GB version.

I'm slowly but surely identifying the pieces of the puzzle :)

PSU next. I'd like something nice and quiet. I realise I don't need masses of power with my setup given the 7850 and mATX board. I was looking at http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=CA-229-SV&groupid=701&catid=123&subcat=2283 to match the case.

Any views at all?

I've got this one, and can't hear it! + Its modular so your case will be nice and tidy! :)

Nice, thanks for the link. I'm wanting to go on personal recommendations and reviews rather than the flaky db(a) ratings provided by the manufacturers.

Been reading this thread (I really should get on and do some work ;)) http://forums.overclockers.co.uk/showthread.php?t=18449670&highlight=quiet+psu&page=2

Lots of food for thought, especially where case fans are concerned. I've read that the fans included with the GD06 are fairly noisy, I'd like to replace these with 2 Noctua 120mm fans.

The Sapphire 7850 comes with a quiet cooling solution, or so I've read. The Antec Kuhler CPU cooler should do the trick as long as I don't get one that 'clicks' or gurgles :D

I know HDDs don't make that much noise but I'm thinking of just going for a larger SSD instead to cut noise down more. I'm thinking 2 x 120gb SSDs instead... not sure if this is overkill and I should just plump for a 2tb hdd to store things like music and movies on.... I guess they're cheap enough. It's just the noise!

Bear in mind you are only playing in 1080p so will have a million FPS (OK I exaggerate) even without doing any overclocking!

'Only' 1080p is fine with me. The TV i'll be playing on has changed as this will now be going into another room and will now be on a 32" 1080p Samsung instead.

The 7850 seems like incredibly good value for money, which is what this build is all about really (apart from the 3770k).

Hi guys,

Still gathering the parts for this. My Crucial 256GB M4 SSD arrived yesterday :) Work commitments have meant that this is taking longer than I expected as I can't devote the time to it. Anyway, cracking on.

I'm looking at CPU coolers now. I've been reading review upon review on different coolers and I think I've whittled it down to a handful.

I know the Antec Kuhler 620 has come recommended but I've read that the pump can make quite a bit of noise. This turns me off slightly and makes me think about going down the air cooled route, especially as I'm not going to be overclocking.

So, my processor runs off 77w which, as far as I understand it, is relatively low power so temps shouldn't be much of an issue. What is an issue however is obviously the height which I have to play with when it comes to fitting such a cooler. 70mm is the height which I need to comply, 120mm if I remove part of the Silverstone GD06 internal optical drive housing. I've looked at the following:

- Zalman CNPS8900 Quiet Heatsink & Fan
- Scythe Zipang SCZP-1000
- Scythe Shuriken 2 Rev.B Quiet Low Profile
- Silverstone SST-NT07-775

I'm sure all of these would do the job as I'm not going to be squeezing the processor at all. It's all going to be stock.

Does anyone have any experience with the above coolers? Or could anyone perhaps recommend one I haven't mentioned?

Thanks

Dave
