Hi :)
Well at last I've managed to register here thanks to starting work- email :p
I'm making my first DIY rig, and need it checked over, whether all the hardware will work well together.
Unfortunately, I've bought most of the items before being able to register here, relying on researching other's posts here and elsewhere.
Anyway here's what I've ended up ordering:

EVGA 680i (delivery tuesday 23/01)
intel C2D e6600 (delivery tuesday 23/01)
Noctua 1200rpm (for front) (delivery tuesday 23/01)
BFG 8800 GTX (delivery tuesday 23/01)
150GB Raptor (at home)
2x 320GB Seagate Barracuda 7200.10 (at home)
Zalman CNPS 9700 NT (at home)
Pioneer 111BK (at home)
Tagan Dual Engine 600W (bought this back in July 06)
Akasa Eclipse 62 (at home)
Zalman ZM-F3 (for rear) (at home)
OCZ ddr2-900 pc2-7200 dual channel platinum XTC (unsure of delivery date) (btw, the reason I got this, as I acquired it for <£200)

I'm unsure as to the OS right now- going to wait till next week and see some review of vista. Ive already got a 19" GNR tft, but I'll be upgrading that later.
I game quite a bit- mostly Oblivion, HL2, KOTOR, FEAR etc..
I also listen to music, and watch films (though not nearly as much as gaming).
Any reccomendations will be greatly appreciated (I can always cancel the stuff delivering tomorrow, or resell anything else). Price is not important at this stage, just making sure the components work together best (though as you can see from my build, I'm not willing to spend extortionate amounts on some things. Others- well I like to live in the now :p).
:D

Edit: About the motherboard, I'm not too fussed on sli, so is there anything that can perform better, and is more stable than the evga 680i.
DFI's RD600 looks good, and its cheaper, with crossfire option (again I'm not fussed, but may be useful in the future). Basically what is the best motherboard option that is relatively future proof, stable, performs well at stock rates (but able to overclock well, for when I am ready to do that).
Intel chipset please.

Thanks again :D

Bump

I know its only been a couple of hours, but my orders ship tomorrow, and its urgent.
:D
How stable is the DFI RD600, compared to the EVGA 680i. Any major probles, ie wont post with certain memory modules, sata problems etc.
I'm seriosly looking at switching my order to the DFI.
Whats their support like? What about power, will my Tagan 600W psu be enough?
Also, how hot does the DFI RD600 get, as compared to the evga 680i?
If there's any better board out there, I'm interested. (as I said, crossfire or Sli is not a priority for me).

Thanks :)

And you ordered a Nvidia 680i mobo??

RD600 is good but if you have already ordered 680i then don't bother switching over because RD600 doesn't actually offer anything over Nvidia chipset. I mean yes it has future DDR3 support but unless DDR3 is using the same socket as current DDR2 you will need a new mobo anyway.

DFI used to be great especially when support was available from the DFI Street forum. Now the forum is down and to me that is a major reason not to buy DFI mobos; they need a lot of tweaking and DFI Street provided excellent info on this.

Anyway the rest of the rig looks perfectly fine mate. :)

LOL! Bah, I was typing in a rush :p
I meant lga 775 :)

Thanks for the reply.
Yeah, on that note, I like EVGA's support, so its the safer option.
Any other non sli/sli boards that are good for lga 775? I'm looking at the intel BAD AXE 2, in particular. Something solid, that runs well at stock, and offers decent overclocking capabilities in the future?

What about the memory I've listed (ocz ddr2 900 pc2-7200 plat xtc)will the 680i post with this, or do I need some cheap ddr2, and then alter the voltage settings?

And finally (sorry for all the questions :p ) is my tagan 600W psu enough?

Thanks :)

There are many good mobos based on Intel 965 / 975 chipsets also but as said, nothing is really any better than your EVGA 680i. Intel Bad Axe is good and solid but not sure how it overclocks.

Yes the RAM will work; low voltage problem only happened in early Gigabyte 965P boards and it has been fixed long time ago with new BIOS revisions. I don't think you need to worry about that at all tbh.

And yes that Tagan is perfectly fine with your new rig.
