hi all, had a gigabyte dq6 and an e6300 with 1gb geil ram for a while now so i decided to upgrade to an e6400 as i know there has been some great clocks on current chips, i also booght an extra gig pf ram so i have 4x512mb geil ram, i installed evrything and now it wont boot, i think its the graphics card as i have pressed the Del key to enter the bios continously this makes a clicking sound when u keep pressing the key, nothing is diplayed on screen but i can hear my hard drives spin up and the clicking when i press the del key, i have re seated everything, tried booting with only 1 stick of ram, reset bios, im all out of ideas can u guys help please.

cheers

Could possible be a dud e6400 CPU. Try your old one 6300 again, or perhaps try a different stick of ram if not already done so.

No beeps?....

Remove all memory any beeps?....

Could the CPU be seated slightly incorrectly?....... have tried reseating?

no beeps, havent treied no ram will do in a sec, no cpu is seated 100%, reseated it several times also

edit, getting beeps with no ram which is a start, does this mean the mobo isnt dead?

Ok so you get beeps without memory.....

Could well be a under voltage problem in the bios, could be defaulting to low..... or could be a number of things.....

Where do you get to?... just as far as the POST screen?

If you end up buying another CPU, it might be worth looking for something like a cheapo P4 to save on the £££, for testing purposes.

when i has the E6300 it would post at 1.8v no problem i have flashed the bios to F6 before the mess up, its no posting at all not getting anything on the screen whatsoever

Sure the vid card isnt playing up?.... do you get the usual boot up beeps?.... as if the PC is booting just not displaying on screen?....

If you have the speakers on does it sound like its loading into windows, or are you pretty sure its stuck on POST.

i was first of all thinking it was the vid card, i get one beep which is what i used to get normally, im pretty sure its gettin stuck on post im not 100% sure i will have another bash

Try unplugging the cables from the PSU to the vid card and motheboard, then plug them in again.

Had a few unsolvables caused by loose cables..... again worth a shot...

Unplug all your IDE and Sata devices and see if it will post.

Seen problem devices hault a system a few times.....

Sorry just throwing ideas out there.....

Socket 775 isnt my area, but all hardware is pretty much the same when you get down to the nitty gritty......

Ok, well that eliminates them as being a problem, just keep removing things until you get a post or beeps...... USB devices, etc.... just to see if it helps.....

Had a USB device that caused weird keyboard problems that convinced me to chuck out a nice keyboard, only to find a USB device was causing weird problems.... odd i know....

Checked the connection to the monitor?.....

So what state does the system get in, do the HDD led lights flash (when plugged in of course), does the system shut off or stay powered on?

Urm surely if it beeps without memory then the memory is at fault? I take it you have tried it with the original memory only or just one stick in there?
