why are they the buisness when it comes to graphics?

whats the monitor/monitors resolutions all this is for, SLI or crossfire maybe overkill if its just one 24" screen

no, but it wont suffer from a little thing people call micro-stutter, and its minimum frame rates are higher.
also sli scales better than crossfire.

but another 5870 wont be as expensive in a year or 2
neither will a second GTX480, look at the two articles i gave a second ago, you get better returns with sli than crossfire.
