Hi all,

Just received my PS4 and I want to put it to my PC monitor and speakers so I have a HDMI to VGA and audio converter.

However, the monitor wont detect any output from the PS4 and I have tried it on various monitors.

When I changed the HDD in the machine, originally a source was detected when I was in the PS4 safe mode, its only when the firmware has been installed that a problem has occurred.

The HDMI converter worked outputting from a laptop, so I can only assume this is a PS4 fault.

If anyone can help that would be great.

Thank you

Whats the monitor? I had a similar issue when trying to plug consoles into a HP screen, and because it couldn't handle the lower resolution being output by the consoles (monitors standard was 2560x1600), it wouldn't work.

Tried turning off HDCP on the console? You may need to do this via another display that actually works with it.

Just tried that, and still wont display an output.

It will display in safe mode though, any ideas?

Dell u2412m, I have also tried it on another monitor with the same result

This is the converter I am using.

Could this be a faulty PS4 issue?

I'm guessing it works fine if you just go straight into one of the hdmi ports?

Hey,

Yeah if I plug it into a HDMI port it works as you would expect. Really annoying as I dont know if it is a faulty PS4 since the converter works ok with a laptop.

Silly question, that monitor has a DVI socket, why not just use a HDMI to DVI cable?

DVI and HDMI are essentially the same minus the audio on the DVI, just use a different method to connect up your audio. I think you'd have more issues trying to connect HDMI to VGA rather than DVI. It could be your adaptor or an HDCP issue?

Can't imagine it would be the Ps4, I'm guessing the converter isn't powered (not really familiar with them but that could be an issue, it is with HDMI switches). Would an alternative not be to use an HDMI switch and take the audio from the optical output on the ps4, pretty sure it has one, but I guess your speakers may not have an optical input?

Ive purchased a new HDMI to VGA and Audio converter that the reviews say it works with the PS4, fingers crossed, just need to wait until tomorrow.

Given that it works in safe mode and doesn't appear to be a HDCP problem it may be that it can't output the 1920x1080 resolution to the VGA port. Try changing the resolution 720p and see if it works then.

But I'm really not sure why you would want to use a VGA connection if you have DVI or HDMI available.

Update:

I have the new converter, it displays to the monitor but it is very dull, ive set the screen brightness to max which still hasnt done much.

Any ideas on this one?

Thanks

I am using HDMI to VGA and Audio as my monitor does not have an audio output.

If you have a method to go from HDMI to DVI with a audio output I'd love that.

So does your Dell monitor have speakers built in?

Why can't you use a HDMI to DVI cable to the monitor for the picture (no convertor required) and use a separate cable from your PS4 audio output ( optical is it?) to whatever is providing your audio, eg, amp or speaker system?

I can't see why you want to convert to VGA when you have a DVI capable monitor, neither of which can supply audio.

My monitor does not have built in speakers and my speakers are Creative GigaWorks T40 which do not have an optical audio input. Do you have a solution too this?

Thanks

If I was you I'd buy a HDMI to DVI convertor / splitter type box that has a separate socket for your audio, if such a box exists. So basically the audio signal from the HDMI input is separated from the visual signal and a 3.5mm stereo jack or phono sockets are provided on the convertor. The visual signals would just 'pass through' to the DVI output.

But, such a gadget may not exist due to possible issues with HDCP.

OR, use the HDMI to DVI cable for your visual and buy an optical to analogue (phono or 3.5mm stereo) convertor for the audio. This method is probably the easiest as your video would not be disturbed and only the audio is being converted from optical (digital) to analogue.

Sorry on mobile internet atm at work so hard to search for ideas and links to products.

Does an Optical Audio to 3.5mm jack cable actually work?

To get the audio on my Ps4 going to my analogue amp I'm using one of these:

Then all you need is a phono to 3.5mm converter

I've had no problems with audio quality at all, although it is a little quieter than normal output. It does require a power adapter (supplied) but I'm using one of these to power it so it doesn't need to be on all the time:
