Help please

went to turn my pc on and all of a sudden it wont start

it brings up the boot screen as in ram etc, then goes to the windows xp screen with the progress style bar underneath but then wont go to the blue windows screen where you click on user name,

I have unplugged any unessecary stuff like usb, network cable etc, so it only has keyboard mouse and monitor

tried to go in via safe mode and it wont go in that way, only loads half of the files and then stops

whats going on

just run the seagate diagnostic tools,

and it passed the short and long test so the drive is okay

should I run a chckdisk now see if it is windows, and what about double checking the wires etc

What's the last file it names before it crashes?

well been running chkdsk for about an hour and a half now, it still hasnt finnished ahd it looks like it has got itself caught in a loop, it will get to 70% and then go back to 50% and build up again

is this becuase it is finding a lot to fix, and if chkdsk fails does it give a failure message

gonna try and mount this one as an secondary disk to see if i can pull stuff of it, as windows doesnt want to know

well chkdsk finnished and finnished succesffully

and am now in in Safe Mode

how do i go about finding what is causing it to stop going via normal mode

is there a selective startup ?

discovered a last known good configuration in safe mode

hit that and I am in

dont know what the problem is / was but currently backing everything up just in case.
