I've bought a new 640GB hard disc for my 4 year old home-build PC. I've just tried to do a fresh install of XP on this disc, with just the new disc connected. The XP installer only sees 131069MB of unpartitioned space, rather than the full 640GB.

I vaguely recall a similar issue when mates built the PC with the original 320GB hard disc.

How do I make Windows see the whole lot? I have an Abit Duramax AA-8 motherboard (if that makes a difference).

You need a post SP1, preferably SP2 copy of XP on the install CD to allow you to create partitions bigger than 128Gib.

Either carry on and then use gparted or the like to extend the partition or use nlite to slipstream SP2 onto a new copy of the install CD.

i found this problem with my new 500Gb, i formated the second part windows made, and used Partition Magic to merge them both with no loss of data
