Hi,

I have the gigabyte EX58-UD5 and the OCZ Vertex 2 SSD drive but the drive is not being detected when I boot to the bios and so I can't install windows 7 onto it. Does anyone have any ideas please help. Thanks.

Try a CMOS reset, try another SATA cable and ensure AHCI is enabled in the BIOS (although this has nothing to do with the SSD being detected or not). If you still have no joy can you test it on another PC before raising a RMA?

Also, I made sure it was in the 1st sata port, find using the manual. Make sure its on the intel controller (light blue sata ports closest to the CPU socket). Also though neither shoudl really affect wether its actually seen thou... but you never know!

I have tried both but originally the white one.

Do you think I need to load the motherboard controller drivers when loading the windows 7 CD?

Nothing to do with drivers mate.. If the BIOS is not recognising it then you'll not be able to install Windows on it. Have you tried a CMOS reset as well as all the other SATA ports on your board? Is the drive getting power ok? Can you try another SATA power cable from your PSU?

OMG! I took out the battery. Put it back in. Plugged the SSD into SATA port 01. Booted up and BINGO! It's there!

WOOOO!

Now I just need to know if I should change the controller from IDE to AHCI. Im a bit confused on this issue.

Also why can't I use the 6G SATA ports. Surely that would make the drive quicker. No?

Change the controller to AHCI before installing windows on the drive as any firmware updates to the drive will only install under that setting. No point putting the drive on a 6G SATA port since the drive is only SATA 2 IMHO.

Firmware updates for the drive can be found here
