HELP - Socket A XP3200 upgrade problem

help ###

If I could get hold of another skt a bios chip, can it be from any mb, or must it be same type/model.. and If I do I take it I can post with the replacement chip and then carefully remove it once the pc has booted, replace the old one and then flash it with the latest bios...

yea it'll have to be the same manufacture and model of motherboard that you currently have also the same revision aswell i'd have thought.

I'll try and find the link to that company for you. They'll sell you a chip or reflash your current one. They also sell an external device that will store a backup of your BIOS so you can socket in your ROM chip and reflash it without the need for a working PC.

Slow progress.. but not there yet!

  Managed to get a new bios chip and at last some progress, but not quite there yet. I'm now getting a "partial" post and all seems ok with recognising cpu, memory, pci, raid disks, but it halts at the Nvidia boot agent line... message as follows:-

"Nvidia Boot Agent PXE-2.0 (Build 082 V1.82)
Copyright (c) 2001 Nvidia corporation
Copyright (c) 1997-2000 Intel corporation
PXE-E61: media test failure, check table
PXE-MOF: exiting Nvidia Boot Agent
Disk Boot Failure, Insert System disc and press enter..."

This is all with the default bios loaded, if I load the optimised defaults - No post at all!! Can anyone explain this? Also this is with the old XP2600 cpu, with the new XP3200 no post so I assume there is a problem with the new cpu! For me just getting it to run with the old cpu will be just fine!!

Any would be most appreciated... Its not far away I think...

Have you been into the bios and made shure that it is set to boot from Sata, and make shure that Raid is enabled(your are still running sata raid?). Also make shure that it is not set to boot from the Lan Rom.

More Help

DFI have been pretty helpful with a new bios chip, but still not quite there yet. I've checked the "Sata" and "Raid" settings in the Genie bios setting and all seems ok... So I'm still getting the following message towards the end post:-

Nvidia Boot Agent PXE-2.0 (Build 082 V1.82)
Copyright (c) 2001 Nvidia corporation
Copyright (c) 1997-2000 Intel corporation
PXE-E61: media test failure, check table
PXE-MOF: exiting Nvidia Boot Agent
Disk Boot Failure, Insert System disc and press enter..."

I've tried another SATA and a IDE hdd and same problem. To get any further than the "Disk Boot Failure, Insert System disc and press enter.." message, with a new hdd, you need to be able to boot from cd to format the hdd. Because the mb does not seem to want to boot from cd I cannot format the hdd or install a new op system and so i assume its something in the bios that is stopping this?? Once I can boot from cd and format a hdd I will be fine. I dont think I need to do this though as I'm sure the raid hdd's are are fine and its just a bios setting "somewhere" thats stopping it booting! Anyone with any more ideas?

The details on the boot menu are from the user manual pg89 section 3.3.

Not familiar with the DFI's BIOS menu structure I'm afraid, but if you've made sure that you've got the boot sequence order right, network boot (if it has such an option) turned off, and boot other device also disabled, then try disabling all on-board peripherals including SATA and even USB controllers: I've heard that sometimes solves such problems. Also make sure you've got all BIOS and VRAM caching/shadowing options switched off.
