help spec me a pc

Do you need one of those wide strip cables for the drives didn't get one with it

The motherboard will come with two SATA data cables (one for the HDD and one for the DVD drive)

The spec I did above included a new DVD drive re-writer in SATA, modern motherboards are SATA and finding one with a IDE (the wide cable) is rare as its old tech.

This is a SATA style data cable,

This is IDE,

I was looking for information for a build for my parents and came across this thread which is pretty much answers most of my questions. Thanks Hitman for the thread and stulid for the info.

I do have one question, would this spec be suitable for an HTPC?
It would be used to watch videos online.

Yes it would, you can increase the harddrive size (1TB+ etc) to suit your needs, or add more as you need extra space, the motherboard will have two SATA ports free after a DVD and HDD have been added.

It also has these display outputs

HDMI, VGA & DVI-D output

I put all the stuff in the case (ximatek asgard) of the parts you said

Just need to put the cables into motherboard,CD and hard drive.. need to find out what goes where

Edit also I got the two red cables

Wow, you got these parts quickly considering it was just yesterday and still just this morning deciding on cases.

The motherboard needs a 24pin ATX and a 4pin ATX near the cpu socket.

Attach a SATA cable from a port on the board, one for each drive, then just add a power connector from the PSU to each drive.

Fit the heatsink and fan assembly and plug the little connector into the CPU_FAN header.

Attach the wires from the case to the bottom edge of the board and connect any case fans to the PSU.

The bigger three pin looks like a fan header for a case fan (possibly from the front?) stick it into the motherboard at a SYS_FAN header, theres one under the main 24pin connector.

Connect the HDD LED, PWR LED, PWR SW, etc too header JFP1

right

ive done that and i put (speaker) in JFP2

just to check before i boot

i put the chip in the lift plate thing and then the fan on top of it..it doesn't need any paste right? apparently its on there? not sure

i put it in boot mode and its saying

reboot and select proper boot device or insert boot media in selected boot device and press a key..

it always goes to that when starting now

I've installed OS now and motherboard drivers

But I've got I've got a problem in BIOS the ram was running at 1000 auto so I set it to 1333 and switched it back to boot from hard drive saved and reboot

Now it turns on for a for about 5 seconds and cuts out then keeps repeating
