I dont want to burst any bubbles here but he's got a bit of text. Of course its going to load faster.

Put a proper website on it and see how it runs ;).

A nice project though, we've all been there.

True, but you can still roughly see that's its fairly fast, if it was super slow then the text wouldn't loading instantly.

As promised...

I've just done a really quick 5 minute install of PHPBB2.
I've created a spammers forum (no registration required) and a forum where people who feel like testing registration can post.
Feel free to tear it apart coz it will be deleted by Xmas Day!

If you could all let me know how it runs in terms of speed etc I'd appreciate it.

Cheers.

Edit: Will try and keep it all running 24/7 but chances are it will be turned off at 10pm tonight, up again at about 4pm tomorrow.

Its working fast enough for me buddy :D

If your server is linux based, I'd reccomend you install Webmin (www.webmin.com) its a great web config utility which allows you to pretty much use the whole computer, over a web based interface.

how much is it setup? if i wanted to mass email (newsletters) up to 6,000 people would u suggest i do the same?

I use mailman a unix based application to distribute my newsletter to 5,000 people. It runs on freebsd with apache and postfix. It's a bit tricky to setup, but works well once it does. It also has tons of other useful features like bounce processing.

I can offer you a mail list on the server free of charge if you want. subscriptions can be sent to it in a variety of ways. http request, email request etc. I have made loads of web apps in the past to distribute email which work well for thousands of people, but can be heavy on a mail server. perhaps you would be interested in one of them.

Let me know if you want it: j0ilet <at> hotmail.com

Ah, cool. Did you setup PHP and MySQL ontop of Apache manually?

I tried, but it was too much hassle.
The good people of these here forums advised me to go to with XAMPP. I don't really like using packages like that but I scrutinised all the configs and secured it up the ying-yang so everybody's happy :p

Ah, yes, I use XAMPP as well - very good.

I was just wondering as I really wasn't expecting a 600MHZ Celeron to load pages quite so fast, but then again I guess it didn't have any traffic, so no real reason to be slow.
