Help to upgrade my system or possibly replace the lot?

I doubt we will see any new gen Gpus under £500 till next year as the stack tends to release with the high end stuff first.

Yeah you'll want a USB memory stick (8GB or bigger) to copy the Windows 10 image file on it.

You can get a new Windows 10 license key from that popular auction site for about £5. ;)

Oh and can I get a better looking case than the suggested ones ? Something with fancy lights on etc? Is there a specific case i have to buy to fit that motherboard combo inside ?

Yes I’d like to keep the components as long as possible so I’ll go for the 3700x. I mainly play games like Diablo or strategy games like Starcraft along with single player games like red dead redemption 2 etc.
I’m trying to play borderlands 3 but it’s so laggy I can’t bare playing it. Which I know is down ri my pc spec.
Would you mind being specific on the monitor screen ?
The pc is to be as future proof as possible so I can download new releases without the worry of lag issues, or at least the ability to play them on a good high setting.

Thankyou for all your help and input

Get a 3600xt

Then in the future get a 4600x.

A 3700 makes zero sense for gaming. Both financially and power wise.

Yeah, as long as it's micro ATX size or bigger it'll fit the motherboard just fine. This is OcUK's selection of mATX cases here...

admittedly, there isn't much nice flashy rgb matx cases about (that are in stock anyway). so if you saw a nice atx 'midi' case (of which there are plenty) - then you could get one. but having a matx board inside an atx case looks a bit daft, just my thoughts anyway and i'm sure a few others would agree...

if you went atx instead of matx, something 'nice and flashy' that's also good quality would be (imo) the phanteks p400 air which is very good for the money - nice to build in, good quality parts, cable management straight forward and good airflow. they do a white or black model - link here.

then motherboard wise, if you go atx you'll want something like the Gigabyte Aorus Elite but it's another £45. Up to you whether you mind the budget/cost to go ATX, if it's gonna last you a while then you want it done the way you want and right :p

Edit: Also disagree with ya Sonny, why a 3600XT anyway and not a 3600 firstly if anything? But for someone who doesn't want to fork out and upgrade often, going 3700X now is like people who went i7 over i5 in the earlier Intel gens. The extra cores was to future proof, for the games in the coming years that took advantage of those extra cores. Today it'll only be small gains on gaming over a 3600, but as time goes by it'll age better and last longer with newer games as they become better optimised on more cores.

Address my earlier statements before making these claims.

Why a 3600XT over a 3600 when there's a £70 difference?

You're being silly again Sonny.

It's faster which is better for gaming. A 3600xt will beat a 3700 for gaming.

So that's why a 3600xt.

As for upgrading and future proofing it's wise he picks a future proofing motherboard so he can slot in a 4600 or 4600x in future.

It's a simple upgrade. Remove cpu cooler. Remove cpu and out in new cpu.

All upgrades are easy so long as you stay away from water cooling or changing motherboards.

If he wants longevity for gaming the 3600xt is the best cpu to get.

Otherwise I'd personally just get a 3600 or even a 3300x and upgrade to the 4600 when it launches.

If my motherboard is compatible I'll be upgrading to a 4600. I'm willing to bet good money it will destroy a 3700 for gaming.

Also would you advise that I upgrade the ram to 32gig 3000mhz instead of the 16Gig 3200mhz?

You will struggle to use 12gb of ram. So if you like having 20gb of ram sitting there doing nothing then sure go ahead.

16gb is overkill but the issue is 8gb is now not enough for the really big games. And the eis no middle ground. 32gb for gaming is just plain stupid. Ddr5 or ddr6 will be out by the time we need 32gb for gaming.

I don't know why you would be spending all this money and suggesting 1440p 144hz and then using a 1060 gpu.

If you are keeping that gpu then you should stick with a 1080p monitor.

If going 1440p you want a 5700xt or 2070 super.

Problem is new gpu's will be launching within the next year. However with no set date I'd hate to be using a 1060 at 1440p.

I game at 1440p and use a 2070 super and guess what I can't run games on max. I have to use medium settings on a 1060 it would be low. Then what is the point in going 1440p just play at 1080p

In fact hardware canucked just did a video and he recommends 27" 1080p and 240hz I think it was. I would agree. That way you don't need to spend £500 on a gpu.

@Psycho Sonny OP is sticking with his 1080p existing monitor he said for now. He’s not upgrading monitor until he gets a new GPU at a later date. ;)

Edit: What games can’t you play on your 2070S @ 1440p? I run every single game max settings no problem at all on my 2070S...

Is there any way I can just click the list and send it straight to my cart ?

Nah you just click each product link and add to basket.

Also would you advise that I upgrade the ram to 32gig 3000mhz instead of the 16Gig 3200mhz?

Nah 16GB 3200MHz will do you plenty. 32GB is just pointless.

Also the b550 motherboard is only available for pre order ? Is there another I should go for rather than wait ? Thanks again

Are you sticking with micro-ATX? That B550 board I suggested OcUK have advised stock due end of month / early August but aren’t 100% when...

If you need something in stock right now then the MSI B550 Mortar be next best bet to stay future proofed. But @ £159 you may as well get the ATX board and a decent ATX case instead lol. Unless you like the mATX form factor.

So what atx board and cAse should I get then sparx, I’m about to order it now abd was just about to get the gigabyte x570 aorus elite for £199.
I’d rather go with your atx route if paying the extra

Gigabyte X570 Aorus Elite is a brilliant board, but if you wanna save £45 the Gigabyte B550 Aorus Elite will be just as good and run a 3700X no problem. Unless you want X570, you get PCIe 4 chipset support, more USBs on X570 so up to you. X570 vs B550 is a difficult argument with the small price disparity.

Case wise it’s entirely your choice. There is lots of choice. My personal favourite is this Phanteks P400 Air. Just as it’s so well reviewed and I’ve built 3 rigs using it now and it’s just nice to work with all round.

But you might like other cases to suit your tastes. Other good ATX cases are like the NZXR H510, Lian-Li Lancool II, Corsair 275R, Corsair 220T, Fractal Meshify C.

Pick whatever takes your fancy :)

...Sonny proves once again why nobody should listen to him.

The X570 Elite is a fantastic board as stated by @Sparx -- in your case I would take his suggestion and go for the B550 Elite instead.

Just make sure the case you get is applicable to the form factor of your motherboard.

I tend to recommend M-ATX as I really like the form factor and it's often cheaper to get a damn good M-ATX case compared to an ATX.

Case wise I like corsair. They are cheap and I find their air cooling to be spot on once you add a few extra fans.

I've built maybe 4-5 pcs in the past 3 years. Nzxt look amazing but the airflow is terrible.

As for what game I struggle to run max. I can't run even apex legends which is one of the most well optimised games at max.

I get maybe 100-120 fps on max everything bar shadows on low.

After I dropped quite a few settings I finally got 160fps which is good because my monitor is 165hz.

The only game I can run on max is csgo which would run at max on a 1650 super.

If my monitor was to die or I had to pick again I'd honestly go 27" 1080p and 240hz.

Im currently running 32" 1440p and 165hz.

Great input.

You are recommending the board I originally recommended calling it a great board. Then saying that he shouldn't listen to me.

So which one is it?

Rhetorical question fyi as I know you will be too slow to pick up on that.
