Help: Very slow internet problem

After putting it back into router mode I have retained my 50mb/s (and so have all the other pcs). Very weird, seems the fix was to swap into modem mode and back out again.

I also spoke to Virgin, they have said (before I did the modem trick) that the firmware update has caused some issues in some superhubs and that the loadbalancing on the router could be at fault - they are sending me a new router as they suspect it is the cause. With the modem trick I think I can confirm their suspicion that something went **** up with the firmware update on the super hub.

Thanks for all your helpful replies guys - I appreciate it all :)

yeah virgin forums is mentioning issues of speed and line drops with new firmware...mode trick seems to bypass it think virgin are sussing it out ;)

Glad it sorted, I was starting to suspect the router.

Looks like the problem has occurred again. This time switching to modem mode didn't work.

I have also tried to use a knoppix live CD and this did work, I got full speed, so I thought it must be a software issue and re-installed windows 7. This retained problems, the first thing I did after installing windows was try a speed test, but when the flash client was downloading at 5k/s it was obviously not working. What is interesting is I then setup a proxy server on another machine on my network and setup my main machine to use that, this managed to get me 50mb/s.

Anyone have any other ideas on how to fix this?

I suspect its a router issue but having problems getting a new super hub from Virgin. They sent me one via Yodel but Yodel were useless and never delivered it (They tried on 2nd August but I wasn't there, on the 3rd I arranged a redelivery via their website for a delivery on the 6th but they instead delivered on 4th when I wasn't there. Nothing showed up on the 6th, so I phoned them up and arranged a delivery on the 8th. Nothing showed up so I phoned again and arranged a delivery for the 10th. On the morning of the 10th I phoned them up to ensure they were actually going to deliver and was told they can't find it and they think they sent it back on the 4th!!!). I was annoyed :)
