Help - Want to move back to android from iphone 4s

Well I've got a couple of hours to decide whether I want to keep my iPhone or get rid of it for this.

Must say I had almost convinced myself to stick with the iphone until I played a sample movie on the SGS3... the screen is :eek:

I'm just trying to fathom whether I'd squish the phone in my pocket given that it seems absolutely huge compared to the iphone?!

I'm about to google, but do these things have gorilla glass or do I desperately need a screen protector for it? I notice people mention a rock case in the accessories thread?

It has Gorilla Glass. You don't NEED a screen protector, the screen won't scratch easily but it will scratch in some situations. It's up to you.

You'll also get used to the size in no time, don't worry about that.

The GS 3 has gorilla glass 2, which is supposedly thinner than normal gorilla glass, however, still as tough apparently but I personally think it isn't as tough as there have been an awful lot of people getting scratches on their screens (not massive scratches, but tiny little scratches) and they are supposedly being very careful, so I think a screen protector is definitely worth it especially when the screen is so big and lovely.

I have used screen protectors before and lots of people say that they ruin the screen for quality, but they really don't if you take some time and have patience when applying it, as once applied properly you don't notice at all unless you have super good eye sight or something :p, only the "feel" is not as good as the "naked" glass on the GS 3 and fingerprints etc. are shown more easily (many other people also say the same)

Up to you what you do, but I personally would recommend getting one after seeing all these reports (more than any other gorilla glass device).


The rock case looks the best there is IMO along with the nillkin hard case, both add minimal bulk and will make the device feel much better in the hand as well as covering the back and the trim on the sides :p But they don't cover the top and bottom of the mobile, you will need a TPU case or something similar to cover those areas.

As for the scratch reports, you have to remember the GS3 is WAY more popular than any other Android phone has ever been, so that probably explains the increase; more people have it.

Could be and it most likely does play a factor in the amount of reports, but the GS 2 was very popular as well (2nd most popular android device IIRC?) and I don't remember reading any where as many reports for scratches as the GS 3 especially within the first month of it being released, I would say that there are more screen scratch reports in the GS 3 thread than in all of the GS 2 thread (on this forum) so far, same for the desire etc. (no where as popular as the GS 2 and GS 3 though)

I've got to say that I am honestly still undecided! I watched YouTube videos on both and the s3 screen looks amazing compared to the iPhone!

I never thought I'd be nervous of leaving one of these things but apple must add nicotine to the touchscreen to keep you addicted or something!!

Not one scratch on my SGS2 screen & it is bare ;) :p

Doesn't make up for the dents & scrapes on the sides though :(

Hey mate,

It was just the size I wasn't keen on, you've actually just convinced me with that video ;)

I still have about an hour to decide but I guess i best get to copying all my stuff off my 4s just incase!

Sorry Robbo, but its just sold it for me lol! I forgot about the emu stuff that you can run on android! I'm assuming you need some expensive cable for that stuff but still!

Would you guys both genuinely take the swap?

Ha, well that's good then if that sort of thing interests you. I've never understood it on a phone but then I have other equipment for that sort of thing. :p

I would take the swap, and Nexus definitely would as he hates Apple and the iPhone (he won't mind me saying that), but you can take my word for it; I'm neutral. :D

If your phone was the 64GB model it could be a slightly different situation as you could sell it for quite a lot more, but as it's 16GB it's unquestionably worth it in monetary terms.

You will get use to the size and be really glad you went with it due to the bigger screen :)

Trust me if you go back to the 4s, you will be left thinking "damn, should have gone with the GS 3, I miss the screen!" :p

Yup, I would take it over any iphone without even giving it a second thought, but more so due to the OS and it being an Apple product, I do not like IOS/Apple one bit (too many reasons to list as to why that is) :p

Robbo got it spot on pretty much :p


It is a very worthy upgrade in the hardware department alone and again as Robbo said even more so considering that you have the 16GB 4s.


The cables aren't that expensive e.g. I got a MHL adapter (connects the phone to the TV via HDMI) for £7 or something including delivery and the USB splitter cables etc. are about that much as well, same for most other cables :) If you buy the official ones by Samsung etc. then it will cost more, but a OEM cable of ebay or somewhere else will do the job as well but for a lot cheaper.

However, at the minute I think the GS 3 doesn't work with current MHL adapters due to a "pin" missing or something, so only the Samsung one will work, I am not 100% sure on this, you will get a better/more correct answer in the GS 3 thread :) And this was quite a while ago, so there may be plenty of MHL cables for the GS 3 around £7 now.

I love the S3, I think I've turned into every other appleite - afraid to leave!

I know the S3 is better in every way than a phone from a company that takes any other company with a superior product to court too :(

Curious as to why as well? :) Is it just the OS you aren't use to? Android does take a bit of getting use to. And the size?

I had a desire for two years and absolutely loved it. I've got to drive to work now to either give him my 4s or give him the S3 back. I will update when I return home!

Sense tells me - keep the S3 but there we go!

Why though? You haven't said a reason.

As for the court thing, you shouldn't think too much about that, all the companies do it. Apple are currently probably the worlds most 'popular' (for good and bad) company so it all gets blown out of proportion and reported on a lot more. I'm not defending them, but Samsung and co aren't infallible either.

Why do I prefer the S3? The screen is like 500x better, its fast, fluid, feels nice for plastic fantastic and I just like the way android works by comparison!
