Quick rundown:

Problems began playing Ghost Recon online, BSOD's 'hardware error', then hangs on desktop, or while surfing. Memtested, fine, ran the Windows HD test, fine again. Partdisked SSD, complete wipe reinstalled W7. Have set GPU and CPU back to stock also.

Still hanging. Even hangs on startup repair.

Swapped out ram sticks, tried each individually in the first red slot. No change. Tried other permuatations, too no change.

Have you checked your RAM is running at the correct voltage?

When I first got my current PC I set the RAM at 1.65v (which is what it says it stock on the sticker, and is what the XMP profile sets it to), but it turns out that's wrong and it should be 1.5v. After setting it to 1.5v all my freezing/crashing problems went away & everything has been solid since :)

Thanks I will try that.

Looking in BIOS it is set to auto, and sort of fluctuates between 1.501v and 1.507v - can't imagine that's a problem.

Supposed to be 1.50v according to sticker. I do keep getting overclock failed! on the megatrends screen though.

what fw version you running on that m4? some versions have known freezing/lockup issues

I did apply the firmware update when I first bought it (one found on these forums) - several months later I did another fresh install, tried to apply the update and it said it wasn't needed,

I will find out what version it is next time I can get past the windows splash!

Getting BSOD hardware error every time time now on start.

I did think of installing W on HDD, and cut SSD out of loop altogether.

try popping out the mb battery for 30mins to clear the cmos, beware as this will reset the bios/oc settings so make a note beforehand

then enable xmp for your memory and see if its any better

Crucial M4 driver - Blimey:

21/06/2006

6.1.7600.16385

Can that be right?

firmware version? it will say 000f or some newer ones i cant remember off hand

thats usually the sata port drivers, intel inf chipset drivers or the intel rapid storage drivers

if you have the rst drivers installed you can look in bottom right of taskbar in the rst console,or download ssd life and it will tell you in there

RE: SSD thread, yeah that's the thread I got the update from when I built this machine last April.

Hi, i'm pretty sure I've sorted it. Went back into BIOS turns out somehow the 'target overclock' had got set to 4.8ghz, most I've i've gone to 4.2Gghz max.

Anyone know how this could happen?

Anyway, i'm installing softwate and downloading updates. Before it was hanging within a minute.

Got that ssd prog onto a mem stick but my usb ports aren't working at the moment. Might be because I haven't installed all the software yet.

Thnks for your help anyway guys, if indeed, it's problem solved. Fingers crossed.

The same thing happened when I built my Dad's PC (P8P67 Pro motherboard), it set itself to something like 4.2GHz after I had been in there and set everything to stock.
