hi guys

its been along time since i have even looked at making a new rig

so long that i will be starting from scratch so i need some help when working out what parts to get

now i looked in the store and have seen some cool looking stuff.

i am after a 4core cpu (prob about 2.4 so i can clock to about 3.0)
about 4-8gb of ram
(want option to upgrade to more ram as and when need it)
gfx well some think that will do its job the better the better must suport duels (triple monitors be nice)

about 500gb hard drive with raid so can go up 2 1tb when i get more money

and a cd dvd burner nothing to posh done need blu-ray or anything lol.

oo yer money i have £800 to spend will go over a little if needed but the cheaper the better lol.

so thanks for any help you can give guys

o yer also case blue lights always nice lol

also i dont know about this graphics card it was just there so please recommend in that way

Not sure if there out yet but there are a few Quad DVI HD3870X2 about, up to 4 monitors is possible. I’m sure they will be not far off £300 though, price you pay for a top end gfx card with multiple dvi outputs I guess.

If dual dvi is satisfactory your best bet is an 8800GT, GT is still the sweet spot.
Could always add a second cheap card to run a couple more monitors when the time comes.

If you want to run 3GB+ of ram make sure your no longer running XP.

Rest looks fine, make sure you have a 450watt min psu if your running a overclocked quad

Came up with this before your post, has a decent aftermarket cooler, 8gb ram and a good power supply. Obviously the case be changed for your preference the card is a gts although if needed go for the 520w power supply to cut down costs.

EDIT: what are you actually using this rig for? i mean is 8gb ram actually necessary?

thats grate what would u recommend as an upgrade to the gfx card if i wanna go for over the 512mb?

edit:

i will be using it for 3d modeling and animation as i take cgi at university

o and gaming as i missed out a lot of games by switching to mac so time for windows to win me back

having a card with more than 512mb is not important if you dont plan on playing games above 1920x1200

what aplications do you use?? I use solidworks, 3dsm, and sometimes pro-eng at work and Ive never really needed more than 3gb's

ok so this is what i am looking at

and i have to monitors both running at 1680x1050 :D

the IP35 can be a bugger with 4 sticks off 2gb ram. but if you are not overclocking Im sure it will be fine.

ok so going with the Asus P5K-E anything else is this the best set up i can get for my money?
