I have had a little move about and now my pc is a bit unstable.
only picked it up and mover it 2 feet, had all the wires of it and put them back on, yes they are all in properly. But now it wont boot up properly.
It seemed ok and was nearly completly booted when it restarted then went through many restarts , safe mode options , blue screen of death , windows file missing report and then it made it after 1/2 Hr. thought that it was now OK and had the same problem last night when I booted it up.
Its a 5 year old P4 on XP home.
Do you guys think its the m/b or XP. or the PC sulking coz it knows a nice new Quad core rig will be in its place by the weekend. was hoping to keep it for a back up and surfing. Oh well.

Welcome to the forums.

It's unlikely the the move would have done any damage but it's worth opening up and checking that everything is in place.

Make sure all the power connections are secure and tight.

Check that the memory is fitted correctly.. Remove and reseat.

Check that the CPU HSF hasn't come loose. Again, this may need to be refitted.

Make sure all your expansion card are secure.

You could also run a thorough scandisk from a bootable floppy if you have one to hand.. just to check the hard disks.. Creat a bootable floppy disk and make sure CHKDSK is on the disk. Boot from the disk then run chkdsk c:/r

it is defraging as we speak ( I hope ) will have a properlook at it over the weekend, got a spare HD so will try a fresh install of XP , If I cant get it back stable what is the best cheep board to run a E2140 or 2160 on. want to clock it a bit but only for £50 realy.

Prolly not related, but I had similar a few months ago with spare PC.
I thought the hard drive was dieing, but it turned out to be a bad stick of ram.
Was dear Corsair stuff as well that had been working for a couple of years.

I'm not saying moving your PC kills ram, but it's worth checking before you splash out on a new hard drive.

I wonder that at times ;)

if I do the fresh install it will be on a spare drive I have, and it will be while I play with my new pc. I just want to know why it chose now to play up and why.
I wont be turning it off till I get my new rig up and running as it might not even post next time.

New PC arrived today, But wont work so its going back to overclockers tomorow.

I had to turn off and unplug my old one base unit to try and set up new one , then had to hook it all back up again. funny thing is it now works as it should and I'm sure its smiling at me.
Hope overclockers can sort out the new pc while I wait. Was well chuffed with it , till it wouldent post.
