Hi there, this is driving me nuts!

I use my PC for a while then whenver could be an hour or could be a whole day it will freeze, the sound repeats over and over through the speakers and then after 2-3 seconds reboots.

It'll also, when i just managed to login, reboot around 15-20 seconds later without even doing anything! Sometimes it will sometimes it wont!

Its not a heat problem i dont think, eveything is cool and the graphics card is new.

What could cause this any help would be great this is driving me mad!

Matt.

I've had this problem in a regular occurance, I just upgraded my bios and got the latest nforce drivers for my motherboard and I havent had any issues like it since.

more detail required mate. tell us about your rig (types brands and names of hardware including psu) and what OS your running as well as any firewall antivirus software would be very helpfull

Matt.

Some things to possibly check.

Update Drivers -> Mobo Chipset, BIOS, DirectX, Sound, Display.

Hardware -> Disable un-needed settings in BIOS.

Error Testing -> Try running MemTest, or booting with one Hdd, one stick of RAM, etc.

has this only just started or has it been going on since you built the pc?

Have you installed any new software recently?

Have you noticed and drops or spikes from your PSU (Q-tech psu's are renowned for problems) ?

Download Motherboard monitor 5 and double check all temps and fan speeds voltages.

It sounds like a PSU problem either a drop of voltage or sudden power spike.

I did iot with old psu that qtec one was to try and stop it, so its not that, its not temps ether, fans all spinning freely, cpu, gpu all running cool.

Had pc since last xmas been doing it now for 2-3months. only tends to roughly 2 times a week :-S

I installed latest graphics drivers and about to do chipset ones too. See if that solves it, anything else u can think of?

disable bios settings, such as?

Matt.

Its your q-tec, ive had same psu and it was terribly undervolting, also according to xxxxxxx (compedator i think) review its reather a 350 ish watts psu and not a 650 w, get a psu from a decent brand, u cant get a good psu for 20 ish quid.
Ive had problems with it with a single core cpu and with a 6600gt, replace your psu before it kills someting, a dual core with a high end card will most definatly kill the q-tec or otehr way around.
You've bought a lot of the best possible stuff like keyboard and speakers and you couldnt afford a decent psu?
Im 100% sure its nothing with software but your psu, buy a new one asap, q-tec = ok for low end systems, but for high end like yours its asking for trouble.
If you would really want 650 watts u'd need to spend at least 80 quid.
500 ish would be enough tho for your pc, provided its from a decent brand.

how certain are you mate thats its the psu, i dont want to go out spending a big bag full of £££ if it doesnt fix the problem, but it seems its somthing i should do from what youve said even if it isnt the problem?

Matt?

Im 100% sure as ive had instability on the same psu with a lower end system as yours, a new psu fixed it.
Read this:

site wich i cant name because its replaced by***** said:
QTec's Triple Fan 650W is clearly a joke power supply. From the triplet of cooling fans that battle against each other to cool very little, to the supposed ratings that don't even add up to 650W, finishing with the massive failure for the PSU to get anywhere near its rated output. At 350W the outputs started to fluctuate rapidly before settling down.

By 450W, efficiency was dropping like a stone, input power increasing at a very rapid rate. At 50% efficiency and 900W of input power with the PSU making a horrible screeching sound, PD and I stood well back and recorded its demise on video. At 1100W of input power (1.1 kilowatts), it popped with a massive bang, the internal fuse letting go in impressive style.

For its rediculously low cost, the QTec Triple Fan 650W can only be described as a clown's supply. Buy at your own peril and don't say we didn't warn you. The worst supply on test by quite some margin and a complete misadvertisement of capabilities, suckering people into a poor purchase.

Ask in general hardware about the psu ( more ppl look there) or try the search function and look for q-tec...
The most decent PSU's atm are Seasonic or Enermax but others will do (antec, fsp, akasa, tagan, zalman, etc...)
You need about 400-500 Watts

OCZ GameXStream 600w Silent SLI Ready ATX2 Power Supply - £82.24 inc.VAT

Probably the best priced 600w PSU imho, and a darn good PSU at that. I have the 700w version, read many reviews which rate them highly.

Qtec 650w triple fan gold plated = 350w stable psu not 650w. Also not well built and if you read the hex-us review its very publically been told in not so many words "buy and regret".

Buy a akasa/enermax/seasonic etc psu there good brands and are very stable and strong.

Btw why is hex-us a bad word on forums as in *** out? It doesnt sell components or anything so whats with that?

What PSU?

Btw dont use AVG free its pants i think. Use nod32 or kaperspy for anti virus protection. Also check ** graphics card drivers and sound drivers etc. Maybe there not installed properly or are old drivers.

Also check ** ram, as in are in the right slots etc. And check ram for instability using memory testing software etc.

Recheck bios options as well incase anything is amiss in their. Use this site to know what ** bios stuff means and best way to use them.

Maybe post a direct x report to see if we can spot the problem there?
