help with MSI 6900xt. not compatible with your currently installed driver.

Hi guys, need some urgent help on this one!

basically son wanted to play new steam game 'toolbox turbos' or something and the screen spazzed out then went to desktop. then radeon software unavailable, then i get a message saying

'not compatible with your currently installed driver. please check systems for other version of radeon blah blah

pa-300 on their faq. this basically says 'windows sometimes updates your drivers. so it tells you to disable drivers updates in windows but thats it. then they say just ask MS. but why doesnt nvidia ever have this problem?!? im remembering why i normally get nvidia now. :(

so i do a factory reset clean install of drivers (i did a clean install of windows yesterday and was running fine all last night) it deletes all old ones, reboots, then the screen goes black half way thru cant do anything so have to turn pc on and off. tried with DDU and cleaned everything. looked to have crashed but then i rebooted and let me load a game, but then went black and back to square 1 with radeon s/w not working?!

then device manager tells me this.
"Windows has stopped this device because it has reported problems. (Code 43)" seems to be a driver connection issue

i only got this card yesterday and its been a PITA the last few hours. im already wishing id gone nvidia. :(
 
right. having nothing but a pain from this card. well more like the drivers it seems. every few days i get a black screen whilst playing (temps are fine) then back to desktop and radeon utility wont load saying message about GPU as mentioned above.
im pulling my hair out on this. run DDU utility to clean radeon stuff, its worked the last few times this week but now i cant get it to work at all. it seems radeon software just as bad as ATI which is a shame. i think im going to have to return it and get a 3080ti or something. :(

nope. every time it gets to the 'your screen may flicker' bit it just goes black. monitor says no signal. then it just sits there. sometimes i reset after a while and it works and sometimes not. ive put my 970 back in now and im going to return this POS and get a 3080ti. last amd GPU i ever buy. good hardware but drivers are awful.
 
i get a windows error code 43 saying its disabling the card due to drivers. it seems to be the card thinks it different to the driver somehow? seems a pretty common problem somehow?
 
i might try again today but wasted hours on it yesterday. i have flashed the bios on mobo to latest version but i cant even get MSI app to see the card as windows keeps disabling it. AMD say something about this being an MS issue but ive never seen or heard about this before and never had issues with nvidia
 
i didnt buy thru OK but did buy from a big ebuying store type place. what are my rights with refunds on this? i got it last thursday and had to reinstall drivers a few times in the week now i cant even install them at all. can i just demand a refund or can they refuse? if i can demand ill buy a 3080ti today as i cant contact them til tomorrow.
 
yeah it depends on price for 3080ti. i saw one yesterday for 1400 which is 200 more than i paid for this. im still annoyed we have to splash so much to seemingly keep up with a 500 quid xbox tho haha.
i had this same problem when they were ati. the hardware seems ok but the drivers etc are awful and they take ages to get good drivers out compared to nvidia.

there seems to be a saphire one for 100 more on their website so going to see if i can send this back and get it. i cant find the 1400 3080ti that was available on sat and im not paying 1600+ for one.
 
ok, called them they are processing a refund and return so i ordered this:

Sapphire Radeon RX 6900 XT 16GB NITRO+ OC SE Graphics Card

lets see if this helps. 100 more but i cant find a 3080ti for less than 1700 and im not paying that much

at least they are being very helpful and not arguing with refund

the annoying this is it seems to be a driver issue. when installing the driver i think windows is blocking it hence the black screen. i know the pc is running ok as i can hear music if its playing etc. lets hope this replacement is a bit better.

out of curiosity i could never get ryzen master to run. wonder if its linked?

cool. we can see how we do as i got the saphire coming tomorrow. the powercolor was 50 more i believe. see which of us can get it working :D
at least they are cool with returns, i didnt want RMA hell for a week old card.
so yours black screen half way thru driver install right? but not crash?

im annoying i didnt pull the trigger on the 1400 3080ti i saw friday. but if the replacment works they seem to get same fps as a 3080ti in most games and much cheaper. i resent paying 1800 for a gfx card that can barely outdo a 500 quid new xbox haha. last card i had was a 970gtx and that was a fraction of the price and still plays most things in ultra even now. but im playing battlefield on lowest everything 1080p on a 32" 1440p monitor and my eyes are crying it looks so bad and the FPS oh my :D

yeah i was temped to buy a 2nd when they got cheap but most games work ok with it - i still get 150fps at 2k ultra in fifa lol. battlefield 5 hated it tho and 2042 is even worse. but still playable, JUST haha. just looks awful compared to what i had it looking like next week.
if we can get these working they are bargain compared to the 3080ti etc but still stupid money :D
annoyingly i fried my old cpu overclocking it too much on the BF beta, so upgraded to a 5600 radeon system, wish i'd just bought a 3080ti prebuilt now doh.

its a bit buggy but i had been having fun on it to be honest. performance was the main problem for most but the 6900xt was keeping up with 3090 and 3080ti which aint bad considering the price difference.
