This could be mistaken for a medical thread but I'm positive it's more of a food related thread.

Long story:
In february I woke up and couldn't read a single word on my monitor so made an appointment with the GP who sent me for tests.
They came back quick and he told me my blood sugars had doubled and this was the wake up call I'd been waiting for (I never took my diabetes serious).
My daughter had lost a lot of weight using Slimming World so I told her to teach me so I've finally found a diet that works for me and I can eat loads of stuff I love.
My size has come right down, I've had to change all my working clothes and buy new jeans etc and I'm going up Hanley now to buy t-shirts.
I've still got a bit to go and could in 2 months time have to buy all new again.
Even my running has got better where I'd normally run 5K in just under 30 minutes but amazingly I have just done my PB of 20 minutes 52 seconds
My problem:
I used to be very quick doing my number 2's but now they have become very hard, very long and giving me a lot of pain so I need something to add to my diet that will loosen me up but be fat/sugar free. They used to be type 4 on the Bristol Stool Scale but now they are off the scale.

Short story:
I need something to loosen my stools up, perhaps a drink I can have before I go to bed.

Thanks

As a temp measure consider something like Lactulose as a stool softener. You can buy this over the counter at the chemist. It is really very good BUT as you are diabetic then you must talk with your doctor before trying that. It does work very well. An alternative would be Movicol.

Balance / reduce that as you modify your diet to find what works best for you to speed up your transit time etc.

Eating bananas along with other fruit and veg will help. Adding a little bran to your diet will be good as it will absorb water and hopefully loosen things up. But be careful as some people can be sensitive to that and get a lot of cramping and wind. Drink enough water and, like suggested, prune juice.

You say that you have changed your diet from something that seemed to work for you, toilet wise, to something that now lowers your weight but is not as good for your toilet habits. So have a think about what has changed that used to suit you well, providing it is ok for your diabetes.

prunes... mix with porridge. Not only is it a delicious breakfast but its a guarantee to have you filling the bowl and fast!
